Being tourists, we were told by locals to try Molly’s for breakfast, so we moseyed in on a rainy Friday morning. There were 2 or 3 other tables seated. We got a seat overlooking the water. Not being huge Beachcombers fans, the novelty of photos from the show everywhere was kinda lost on us (I remember the show on CBC from when I was a kid, but never watched it). Food was okay: my Mrs. had the classic breakfast, which was plentiful for an $11 plate, but those sausages coulda used a little more time over the fire. I had the bacon breakfast sandwich ($8) which was alright – no complaints, but it wasn’t mindblowing either. Service was adequate, waitress was friendlier after we’d paid and tipped. You kinda have to try it once if you’re visiting Gibsons, I guess.
Food was not good. Terrible value for money. Extremely unfriendly staff.THIS RESTAURANT NEEDS HELP!My girlfriend had the fish and chips (halibut), she said it was not bad. The chicken burger was awful.
Stopped for brunch and ordered a hamburger and a grilled ham and cheese, both with soup. My companion and I shared the plates and found the burger and soup enjoyable, however the grilled ham and cheese was inedible. It had a rancid taste and neither one of us could eat it. I explained this to the server that cleared the table (finally) but she didn’t make any adjustment to the bill. Upon paying, I mentioned it to our original server but she said that when she did her quality check we didn’t mention it so there is nothing that she could do. She eventually discounted the sandwich 50%, (also inadequate) and said she couldn’t do anything else because the owner wasn’t there. A bad experience made worse by a lousy recovery effort. #touristtrap #lousyservice
Living in the Past. Sorry but I’ve never heard of the Beachcombers so I was amazed by all the good reviews, mostly based on an old tv location. I called in at this restaurant for it’s location by the water and the promise of good food and service. Sadly only one of these was up to par; the view. The service was non existent as we had to wait ages and this for some greasy attempt fish and chips. I’m sure the cod was originally of good quality but the chef had managed to over cook it in greasy batter and served with cold wet chips. Totally overpriced as it’s obviously living on being a tourist trap.My wife and I later went to the restaurant next door (Grandmas Pub) and wished we had gone here as the service was great, the menu looked really interesting and the view? Exactly the same!
Three of us had breakfast on Sunday. The $11.00 ham and eggs consisted of about 1/2 cup hash browns, 2 eggs & a piece of deli ham so thin it must of been warmed up with a flashlight. Toast included. The omelets barely breathed a bit of ham and some hard to find cheese and was half the size of the picture you show online! Same amount of hash browns ~ same price ~ toast included. Had the same price breakfast at White Spot today……..still too full for dinner!!! Won’t go back to Molly’s for breakfast. A&W next!!!!!
The kind of place you’ve gotta go. In most waterfront towns, there’s one big old tourist restaurant that sums up the burg, either because of its location, food or vibe. The kind of place you just HAVE to eat in at least once to soak up the atmosphere of where you are. Molly’s Reach is that place in Gibson’s.The food isn’t earth-shattering. I liked the salmon fish ‘n chips I had. Super-crispy crust on the fish, like what you get on the outside of onion rings. There was a lot of it, maybe too much for some people. But I love crust, even when it’s on the oily side, as this was. The salmon was slightly strong-flavoured, like maybe it was wild (the menu didn’t tout it as such though) or maybe just a trifle on the old side. I’m not complaining. The chips had bits of skin on, which tells me they were cut fresh, and they were crispy. The salmon fish ‘n chips is the least expensive option at $13, and I thought it a fair price. Only $5 for a pint of beer, which is a good deal. The best thing about Molly’s is where it sits. Nice overlook of the Gibson’s marina, woody old building, hustling waitresses who are equally friendly to kids, dogs and paying customers. Get a seat on the outside deck in the sunshine if you can. You’ll KNOW you’ve been in Gibson’s then.
Inconsistent. Have been here twice for brunch in the last 4 months. First time, it was decent, nothing to complain about. I believe I had the crab cakes. Pretty tasty and good service. Second time, I went there with a party of 6. I had the veggie hash and it was so oily, I couldn’t eat more than 1/4 of it. It was drenched in oil. I was a bit hungover from NYE celebrations and you’d think greasy food would be perfect but it made me even sicker. Not that keen to go back.
