Located at President’s Plaza, which is a mall nobody goes to, except old Asians. It used to have a T&T downstairs, which now eSPOT has moved into, so hopefully this place can get more recognition from the young people. It is in the upstairs food court which is really small, and it is the only one that is open later than the others. The cook lady is very nice, as is the cashier lady. Be sure to return their cutlery because that is theirs, not the mall’s. I bought a groupon for this place for two Kubideh meals, which is the standard minced beef skewers, salad, rice and a side. We chose Kashke Bademjan (my fav from other Persian restaurants aka eggplant dip) and another eggplant side – Mirza Ghasemi. We also ordered the chicken curry. They said normally the meals come with two skewers, but the pictures on the wall only show one skewer so I wasn’t sure. If that is true, then the groupon did not mention I’d be getting less than regular. Anyways, I ordered an extra skewer. They had the best salad sauce ever and gave plenty of salad. Kubideh was okay. I can’t really say because I prefer other skewers normally (I will definitely come back to try the lamb skewers) Rice is good – lots of saffron rice on top. The chicken curry for some reason was mixed into the rice even though the picture shows them separate, so I’m not sure there.Price-wise… if what they said was true and that normal orders come with 2 skewers, then it is a very good deal for Persian cuisine. Normally 2 kubideh skewers with rice and salad is $15 at a restaurant and here is it is $11. Again.. if it is only one skewer as their picture shows, then it’s just regular priced.Although it is not positioned in the greatest place to get lots of customers, I do hope that more Asian people come and try out other cuisines. It is also nice to have a Persian place to eat so I don’t have to go downtown to get some.
It’s a little hard to find, in the food court of President’s Plaza (where the old T & T Supermarket used to be), but it’s not difficult to get to once you know where it is, and you will be well rewarded. They are nice and very friendly, and the food is pretty damn good. I ordered the Zereshk Polo and an eggplant dish. The eggplant is more of an appetizer and used as a dip for the pita bread. The chicken was cooked for hours, so it’s fall-off-the-bone tender. I also had a small side salad, which was extremely fresh and crisp (less-than-crunchy salad is a pet peeve of mine). Small thing, I know, but that amount of care to detail, carries over to the rest of the restaurant. These seem like nice people, so I’m more than happy to return for more! ***Update: Went back and tried the Kubideh. Not something I would normally order, as it merely looks like ground meat on a skewer, but it came recommended by the owner. Really good! Juicy and flavourful! Could be my new favourite here (to be fair, this is only my second visit!) It came with rice, salad, and grilled tomato. Can’t wait to return again! ***Update 2: This time I ordered the Herb Stew, unfortunately it only comes with rice and no salad. Although the stew was tasty, I wouldn’t say it was as impressive as the Kubideh. Their green salad has been consistently fresh and crisp every time, although this time I had to order it separately.
