Food is very spicy, I mean, super super hot! For Indian or Mexican, this might be compliment. But those big Chinese signs in the store and Chinese ONLY menu might discourage you if you can’t read Chinese. The food is fine but pricey. Two of us spends $100 but I seems still hungry. This is expensive considering most of restaurant in Vancouver only costs about $40 for two.Not like regular Chinese restaurant, they don’t have many choice for the food. There is only one type of fish soup in store, and two soup size. The big size is around $89 for two or three persons. The small size is about $59. You can’t even choose what kind of fish you could have, because the fish soup is already cooked before the store opens.Another thing I don’t like is the service. We got there before the store opens (6PM), when we sat down, there were already a lot of customers waiting outside. The server tried to push us to ‘pay and go’. We were being there only about 45mins; When my wife went back from washroom; the server already started to clean our table! So if you are a rich Chinese, and like super spicy fish soup, and don’t mind their service, this is the place for you! Otherwise you better find a better place to eat.
Try to make a reservation before coming as wait times during dinner service can be long. The deep fried mochi bars are quite delicious but it can be a big portion for two people. We ordered the small size for the fish with potato noodles, spam and enoki mushrooms as add ons. They make their sauerkraut in house and the flavour of it was very prominent in this dish. One star off for hasty service. The level of spiciness is a little bit less than what you would get at a normal Sichuan restaurant in Vancouver.
ZERO STARS! This establishment has a reputation for having terrible customer service. The lady who is always at the front that does the seating has an extremely terrible attitude. The very frist time I went there the lady told me the wait time was 45 minutes and it would be ready by 730. Myself and my boyfriend waited there for 20 minutes and she told us that they sold out of fish (how is that possible when the only thing they sell is fish). However, the people who came later than us got a table and was served fish. I was so confused. So a few months later, I gave it another try. I got there at 630 and the same lady told me that the wait would be 1.5hr for a group of 3. I put my name down and waited there. 15 minutes later a group of 3 went in without a reservation just like my party and they were told that the wait would be 15 minutes! I was very confused and upset. So I told my friend who just came into the restaurant to put her name down for a group of 3 and she was also told that the wait was 15 minutes (we got seated less than 15 mins). I am extremely disappointed how they treat their customers and I would never go back again. If you want your waiting time to be based on how she feels at that particular moment, then this place would be a great choice. But all in all I would highly NOT recommend coming here so you do not have to experience what I did.
Loved it! Personally think it’s not spicy enough, but very tasty fish and soup! All the small dishes were delicious too! Definitely gonna go back!
This is a really popular dish in China..however they do not offer the choice of spicy level..so I wasn’t able to handle it..it was very spicy..it was quite pricy with the portion they provided..it tasted yummy tho.. I recommended people who loves spicy and would like to challenge the hotness should try this out!! Kindly reminder that you should call and do reservation in advance!!
decent service / no English menu/ have the waiter explain you the menu in English (one page Chinese words)they pretty much don’t do reservations. Tip to get a table: go 2-2.5 hrs before your desired dinner time and put your name down and then go elsewhere (malls nearby) and come back after that 2 hrs; you will still have to wait a bit thoughfoods were good/ the main dish is very spicy by default so it’s not suitable for people who don’t eat spicy/ they specialize in only 1 item, sauerkraut fish but their menu has small appetizersfamily friendlylimited parking spacewould I go back? Yes but only when it dies down and no waiting
