This place is a combination of Vietnamese and Chinese flavours. They have 20+ noodle soup combinations to choose from and also have rice and dry noodle dishes along with banh mi sandwiches. You can get a noodle soup with a drink for $5.50-$6.50. Pretty good deal! Flavours are decent and service is friendly!

Updated : July, 2017Quite disappointed this time that I decided to write an update…Ordered the same thing. The ingredients were ok but the soup base was very, very salty – like only salt water without the taste of any meat broth at all! The noodles were not as good as last time also. I would still give it a rating of 3 because the beef brisket and the fish cake were still good.Disappointed!!—- What a Surprise :)Thought I would like to try something different on a Sunday afternoon, I went to a foodcourt at Richmond and found this Vietnamese Noodle House.A table for 2 – we ordered a bowl of Fish Cake & Pork Roll Noddles, a bowl of Beef Ball & Brisket Noodles, add 50 cents each for a cup of hot tea. We had their milk tea & lemon tea.I wanted to say that their food was surprisingly good. Honestly speaking, I did not expect much when dining at a food court. My experience eating at a food court was : kind of mediore food, small quantity, and comparatively high price… This experience was totally different! We paid a total of $12 for 2 set lunches – each had a hot bowl of noddles soup and a hot drink. What a deal! The quality and quantity were both good. I especially like their fresh thick rice noodles (ho fun) which you definitely could not find at most of the Vietnamese Noodles House. The soup base was ok (we were a little bit of thirsty afterwards but not very severe). The texture of their Beef Brisket was a bit funny (maybe this is the Vietnamese style…), I like the Pork Roll & Fish Cake though… Overall speaking, definitely will go back and highly recommended!!!

Not your average Vietnamese. I’m no scholar on variants of Vietnamese food, so I don’t know what to make of Lai Taste. It’s got Vietnamese touches such as banh mi type sandwiches, lemongrass chicken and pho-ish soups. But there are lots of Chinese touches too. I wonder if the people who run this place learned their cooking chops in the area of Vietnam where the Chinese historically have invaded. Recipes spread along with warfare.I noticed Chinese touches in the bowl of soup I had. I thought it was going to be pho. I had Vietnamese thin rice noodles, bean sprouts, a lot of the typical pho ingredients. But there was no lemongrass flavour or basil leaves — chopped green onions instead. The main meat was pork with the texture of tendon, not beef or chicken. I don’t recall seeing pork on the menu at any Viet place. Way more onions sauteed in the broth than there would be with pho. That broth had some depth of flavour — probably MSG — that got better as the ingredients marinated. And it was dirt cheap — $5 for a big bowl! Good food, for a food court.

Hit the spot. Went here last night for a snack on the way home with my husband. The lady here is an absolute SWEETHEART! My Cantonese is terrible and her English was just as bad but we both understood each other. She even taught me some new words 🙂 The deep fried squid was spectacular. So cheap too. Will definitely return!
