I was looking for a small shushi restaurant and found this jem. I had kanpachi, shimaaji, Hiram, Toro, a spicy roll and BBQ salmon skin salad. All very good but I like the best the toro (tuna belly).Would recommend you call ahead to make reservation.
Cute family run Japanese eatery that specializes in raw cuts that are super fresh. Prices are steep, and I think that their sushi rice could use a lot of work, it does have the same fragrance as other places. Especially when the sushi is simple I want me some good sushi rice. Not a very diverse menu, not the best place for parties or kids. Service is slow, restaurant is small. Come here if you want a nice place with simple eats.
My favorite sushi restaurant. Kojima San and his wife serve authentic, freshest sushi in town. They are really particular in keeping their ingredient’s quality at the highest. They refuse to serve anything that is lesser than perfect. I admire their professionalism. Their Unagi nigiri…
Sushi Hachi has been on my wishlist for a very long time, and I finally got to try it. They open only 5 days a week for 3 hours a day, and usually fully booked throughout the weekdays. I was lucky enough to make a reservation on the same day I was planning to visit.Unagi, Amaebi & Hamachi Nigiri SushiAlthough I am a huge fan of hamachi over anything, Unagi was very impressive than anything else. I started thinking I might have been eating unagi wrong all these years.Considering its high quality this Chef’s Choice Sushi is ridiculously cheap and worth the price. For 10 pieces of nigiri sushi + 1 maki, it’s well-priced for $25. I must admit that every piece was amazing, and specifically I was astonished by this tekka maki. I never ordered a maki for myself unless it comes with a combo. Usually it tastes just simple and kind of bland for my liking. But then Sushi Hachi’s maki changed my whole perception! Nori itself was very tasty which went very well with the warm rice and delicate, sweet tekka inside. I’d eat 5 orders of this.Another must-have at Sushi Hachi is Chef’s Choice Sashimi ($25). You get a good selection of sashimi with 6+ different kinds. Everything was very fresh, and nicely sliced in good size.RATINGFood 5.0/5.0Ambience 3.0/5.0Service 3.5/5.0Price $$Address Pacific Plaza, 1287-8888 Odlin Crescent, Richmond, BCPhone number 604 207 2882Hours of operationTuesday to Saturday 6PM to 9PM sophiaeats.com
I walked in at about 7:30 pm, there were a lot of people. Luckily I had a reservation. The decoration was simple and traditional, with some Japanese prints on the wall. The only sushi man is efficient but he is the only sushi man! His wife is the server/cashier and she is very apologetic when food comes even a little slow and she is very friendly. Today all seafood was freshly from Japan- what a treat! First up was the spicy octopus salad. I asked for the spicy sauce on the side (yes, I’m a spice weakling) but the dressing was already so good I didn’t need any sauce! The bite sized octopus added a bite to the fresh greens. The miso soup was white miso unlike other Japanese restaurants which serve the darker miso soup. Then came the BC Roll, unagi nigiri, toro aburi nigiri, and tamago nigiri. The BC roll was delicious! The salmon was not too heavy and there were nice fresh cucumbers inside, but I wish the skin was crispier. But the star of the show was the toro aburi! The tuna belly was buttery and melt-in-your-mouth. The tuna had a nice smooth smoky flavor, but not too overpowering. The unagi was very flavorful and had a sweet and umami taste. The tamago was sweet, like syrup, but not too sweet. My two friends got the omakase, and it came in two plates, both with 8 pcs each, adding up to 16 pcs, and there is a LOT of sushi. On the first plate, the best response for sushi was the toro nigiri. Like its torched cousin, it melts in your mouth. On the second plate I tried the chopped scallop roll. The sauce was like mayo and the scallop was really soft and delicious. There was a plate of aburi with the omakase, 2 hamachi, 2 toro, 1 octopus and 1 other sushi I forgot. Then there was MORE omakase, unagi with long tails that droop off the side of the rice…cool! Then and only then was the meal finished. What a legendary sushi place! Recommended and would come back at any time. Problem is it’s a little pricey and very popular meaning you need a RESERVATION! This tiny hidden gem has the best sushi I have had in a long, long time.
A mom and pop Japanese restaurant. Authentic traditional nigiri and sashimi, simple and done right; they also serve hot dishes and daily fresh sheets but very limited. Reservations is highly recommended as they only open in the evenings. Service is slightly slow since the husband and wife runs the place.
November, 11th, 2015I feel so hungry after shopping. I finally have chance to try this restaurant. Because of my hubby don’t like to try new restaurant. It’s my turn to pay for it. So, I can choose. We had unagi battera (not good as people said @ zamoto,I like miku’s oshi sushi better) Toro sashimi, mirugai sashimi, bbq sea snail (it’s tasteless), beef sashimi, shimaaji / madai / toro/ tobiko/ mirugai sushi, house roll ( rice too loose / everything all ingredients apart when I try to pick it), a bottle of ice hakutsuru nigori sake.We like their mirugai and toro sashimi. we ordered one more mirugai sashimi. . Because of its so fresh and sweet and cheaper than tsukiji restaurant. . My hubby ordered saba sushi.. he said.. its so fresh and it’s his first time had raw saba sushi.. most of the japanese restaurant serve half cook saba sushi.. he made me ordered another 2 pieces.. but we need to wait for 20 minutes for it…Their services are friendly and fast.. I paid $150 + tips for 2 of us. It’s cheap.
