Food is pretty good but the ambiance is rather irritating. Loud music and dark lighting – I almost can’t see my food! Udon is pretty good but the portion is a bit on the small side, especially the Yaki Udon. The broth is a bit more flavourful than Sushi & Roll, but I still prefer Red Shiso’s to both.

Sushi California is our family favourite sushi place. The food and the service never fail to please us. This is our go-to resto for welcoming our guests from out of town – and true enough they are much satisfied. I always recommend this to friends who are also sushi lovers ourselves.

Love their sushi! Delicious and fresh for a reasonable price. The restaurant itself is very clean and modern, a nice change for a Japanese restaurant. Only complaint is that if you don’t get a booth the middle seating is a bench and awkward with nowhere to put your coat or things.

We came here for lunch on a week day, this location just opened earlier this year so it wasn’t too busy. We ordered the tempura udon, salmon sashimi, negitoro roll, the house crunch roll, and one tobiko with quail egg. If you like your sashimi thick and fresh, this is the place to be! The udon is your basic udon, the tempura was light, not too heavy. The rolls and tobiko tasted fresh as well.Overall, prices are good here and portion size is fair. Service is not worth mentioning. If you’re looking for sushi that is good value we would recommend Sushi California.

We arrived early (around 5) for dinner and the restaurant was expectedly mostly empty. But it wasn’t long before the place was packed, along with a long line of people waiting for a seat. The interior is large and open but still manages to feel private and cozy thanks to the dim lights and floor length black out curtains. There is a long communal table in the center and several separate tables. Very nice, sleek and modern! As for the food, we weren’t expecting much. We ordered the Mixed Sashimi, 2 fancy rolls that I can’t recall the names of, a spicy tuna roll, a dynamite roll, sashimi salad, seafood udon, and grilled mackerel. The mixed sashimi was really good for the price. There was an impressive variety of very fresh fish all for just under $25. Recommended! The seafood udon was also impressive; packed with lots of seafood, oden, fried tofu and veggies. The broth was decent as well. The sashimi salad was gross. It was a cross between a green salad-a sunomono salad without any dressing-and a yogurt. Barf. The rolls (fancy or not) were all just ok. So much rice and so little filling. We received a complimentary salmon kama. It was really good! Nicely charred and tasty. Ironically much better tasting than the grilled mackerel we ordered-which was too fishy tasting and paste-y in texture. Service was so-so. It became increasingly clear that we were no longer welcome about two thirds way into our meal. Servers kept asking if we wanted the rest of our food packed up or if we wanted our bill. Errr can’t you see that we’re obviously still eating… I guess I can understand that they were motivated to turn over our table due to the line of waiting people-but it was still very rude.I probably wouldn’t come back here; but this place is good for what it is. It’s a good place to have a quick and cheap bite. They have large portions and budget conscious pricing. It is not good for get togethers with friends that want to enjoy sake and conversation.
