A family celebration led us to the downtown Baan Thai. An inviting, small cozy space. It was busy when we arrived with a small queue at the door – they don’t take reservations – but we managed to score a large table and ordered a medley of dishes. The spring rolls were thick and delicious with lots of glass noodles and vegetables, hand rolled, served crispy hot with plum sauce. The pad Thai was not too sweet with a distinct umami tamarind flavour. Green curry and panang were both good, preferring the thick, complex and salty-sweet-spicy flavours of the red curry, especially the addition of Asian long beans. We finished the evening with a shared piece of double layered mango mousse cake which we enjoyed so much we ordered another! Overall food and service were great and we had a pleasant evening.

I tried my friend’s red curry and it was more watery than other thai curries I’ve had in Victoria. Staff were short with us rather than friendly. I do not recommend.
