Overpriced and Mediocre. I went up to Harrison Mills with some friends on Saturday to do some photography, and we ended up having lunch here. There were 8 of us total. The waitress was pleasant enough, and took everyone’s order. Some of us ordered an appy and an entre, while others just ordered an entre. Some of the food was forgotten about, and more than 1 person had to remind the waitress that they had ordered something. The person next to me ordered clam chowder and said it was essentially vegetable chowder. He let the waitress know that there were actually no clams in it, and she said that that was how the kitchen made it, and she couldn’t fix it. She offered to replace it with something else. She also mentioned he was not the first to complain about this.I ordered French onion soup as a starter. Very good. No complaints.I also ordered a beef dish that consisted of sliced roast beef on a cut in half Yorkshire pudding popover. This was about $16.00. It was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. The beef was certainly not fresh. Just packaged, mediocre flavourless meat. It was stacked not so generously on a popover that was just plain gross. It tasted like it had been microwaved 3 days before. I asked the waitress about this, and she assured me that the kitchen made the popovers every day. This is BS. Well, I shouldn’t say that. Maybe they do, but then they microwave them so much that they taste like cardboard. Tough, chewy, barely able to cut it with a knife. It’s bread for god sake- it’s not difficult to make. And like the clam chowder, she told me other people also complained about these popovers.Do you know why most people complain about food? Because kitchen staff are lazy, and they rely on machines like microwaves. Microwaves have no place in a kitchen- other than to heat up water. The quality of the food in this place is hit or miss. Some dishes seem to be quite nice (soup) while others are overpriced and inedible.I’ll never willingly go back. And if the kitchen manager reads the reviews on this site (and he should), take to heart what I’ve said and stop being lazy and or cheap when it comes to food prep. Clam chowder SHOULD have clams in it. Popovers are the simplest things to make- just put them in a warm oven for a few minutes to heat them up. Don’t make them, put them in a fridge, and then microwave them on high to heat them up. If you guys don’t understand why that isn’t acceptable, you shouldn’t be working in a kitchen. And if I’m wrong, and they aren’t microwaved, then you don’t know how to make something as simple as a popover. But I’m not wrong.
Brutal. I’m a big fan of the Sandpiper golf course. I can safely say while I will continue to visit them for golf, but I will most certainly not visit the restaurant ever again. On the day of my particular issue, my friend and I played a round in some brutal heat, and we figured we would head in for some food and a few beers. Our end experience was pretty bad to say the least. We sat down and ordered a few beers. We were immediately told that they had been busy and were short on certain menu items. We were alright with that, and decided to pick from what was available. Unfortunately, the staff decided to ignore us for 45 minutes despite numerous attempts to get their attention. When we finally decided to stand up and leave, a waitress came over and asked if we were ready to order. Obviously, I was past the point of no return, refused, and she told me they were very busy and apologized for the delay. I found that odd, because during the 45 minutes we waited, one of the waitresses had the time to sit down with the table next to us and discuss their golf game. It was ridiculous. I’ve had their food, it is good, but if you’re going there, be well aware that you can expect terrible service. I will not allow them to receive another dime of my money, and will continue to tender them a strongly negative review unless someone from this establishment could explain themselves.
Yum!. I ate here on Sunday afternoon with my mom. We both enjoyed our meals, and had an amazing stroll around the property afterwards. I totally recommend this place, and I can’t wait until the next time I go to Harrison Mills!
Gorgeous setting with a waterfront view. Classic west coast items. Love the spot by the fire!
Great food in a stunning location. We enjoy the food everytime we go, it’s always hot and fresh. Lovely place to bring visitors from out of town, or a cozy meal with your partner. Service is friendly too
Great setting. Many great items (I recommend the prime rib yorkie) some not so great (bland butter chicken soup with a thimble of rice?). But definitely share the cinnamon nachos with the table. And the view is fantastic.
Excellent!. Terrific food, beautiful setting. No hesitation in recommending
