This will be an honest review of my favourite restaurant in Hope.As usual on each year, my family and I spent a day in Hope after all the hard working in the early spring. We choose Home restaurant as our first pick because the food were really good in the past visits; however, this is not the case tonight.My order was todays special which is quite decent in value ($17.95 with soup or salad). A 5 oz sirloin steak topped with pan fried sliced mushroom on top of toasted baguette and two scoop of mashed potato with gravy. The only thing went wrong was the steak, I ordered as medium but it turn out to be well done. The waiter offer me to replace the dish but I refuse since food is still food no matter how it was cooked. Wasting it because it did not match my expectation will be a slap to the people who grow the ingredients for this dish. Oh! The mushroom soup I had was quite good, the only downside is I found one little flour puff, it should be fine when the soup was stir well enough. :)My wife ordered fish and chip, and there were two flips. First was the fires were cooked for too long where they lost most of the moisture and become dry and tough. Second was the batter of the deep fried fish, not sure why but it seems whoever prepared for it did not take the time to let the over-dip uncooked batter to thin out as it should be. The batter is almost an inch thick! That being said, the fish is good as we remembered, it was just the batter that was not right.The apple pie was a take out. All is good especially the apple is not totally mushed, the crust were still crisp. If you could catch the right timing when this pie is right out of the oven, it will be a nearly perfect apple pie you will ever have! Oh! If you are really there at the right moment, adding a scoop of ice cream is a must! (For myself preference lol)

We stopped for dinner on our way to Jasper and decided to try this local diner. I was apprehensive from the moment I crossed the door way, as all I could see was a collection of gigantic sugary pies (I had never seen such desserts in real life – for sure I would love to taste them, but were definitely not an option for me under my current lifestyle). On a first look at the menu, I thought that nothing in that place would meet my healthy food standards, and thus prepared myself for not eating at all that evening. I was wrong – there was an interesting salad menu hidden in the back. I asked for a few changes on a cranberry and goat cheese kale salad and ended up eating one of the fittest meals I had in Canada. My family ordered meat loaf, baked chicken and hamburgers, and everyone was happy about their meal.The place was crowded and short staffed, but the server was competent and very nice.
It was hard to decide where to dine in this little town. Sushi and Chinese food is out of radar because of its price, quality and freshness. Home is a rather ‘save’ place to pick since their food is best craft from the area.Once we stepped in, we were told to wait for 20 mins the least for a table. Normally I would walk out but seeing the restaurant is packed. We rather wait for it and likely it would worth it. Luckily, we got sat down on the window seat, spent a few mins to study the menu. The wait is on!Surprisingly, food and drinks are served at good speed (10 mins). First came was chocolate milk shake, nothing out of ordinary but also not bad either. The clam chowder was next and as you can see from my picture, the soup was thick, smooth and had lot of clam meat in it!My son had a kid size grill cheese, it was hot and crispy, nothing to complain of.My seafood fettuccini size can easily fed two ladies. Sauce was think, creamy, shrimp was a little mushy and crab meat was the imitated one; clam is fine as the soup though.The last was the bacon cheeseburger with home bread. By only the look of it, I can tell this massive (6 oz) burger is likely a great one. Bread was soft, patty is juicy and tender, bacon is smoked and extra crisped! The burger use their own mixed sauce which is perfect in my opinion; it has ketchup, sweet minced reddish, it was a well balanced sauce. The only downside was you have to eat it fast or all the juice from patty and vegetables will make the bottom bread ‘soaky wet’ lolThe last was bumble berry pie, pie in here are made by themselves and almost every table order at least a piece! My pie was mixed of blueberry, raspberry and strawberry. The taste was above average, if only it was freshly out of oven with a few scoop of ice cream on it……..Overall I would recommend this place if you like American/Canadian food. However, be ready for the waiting since this restaurant is one the local famous.
Truck stop feel and that ain’t bad. Step into the Home Restaurant in Hope BC and the first thing you see is a tower of magnificent pies. Berries, cream, apples, pastries and muffins all look so appetizing and wonderful. I make a promise to have one for desert but the choice of which one is very hard. We were here late on a Sunday. It was 9am on the Thanksgiving weekend in Canada so we expected to be tossed out in the rain but no it was a leisurely stop.I had the senior’s Turkey dinner (after all it was Thanksgiving) and Marla had a Schnitzel champangion. My dish was really good, I enjoyed the moist turkey and mashed potatoes. Marla’s was a little tough but the taste of the sauce was very good. The service was very good. The waitress was around when we needed her and disappeared the rest of the time. It wasn’t too expensive. We had two senior’s plates for about $11 each. We still could not finish them so the portion size was pretty much right on. We will definately come back and try breakfast.

Home cooking done right. What other pun could the title be, am I right. What can be said about this restaurant that has yet to be said in many reviews, the food is quite good. Now I have been neglectful in my review of this place, due to a major issue I have when I visit this restaurant, it fills me with so much good pie that I forget to write the review. I have eaten I would estimate to be 50% of the menu selection and have returned to the mammoth burger multiple times and have I mentioned the pies yet? Now on to dessert, this place has a plethora of pies to choose from, and so far all are of such excellence of flavour that I have a trouble choosing. Now this review is written after the fact of multiple eatings , and is biased on the fact the food has always been good, so to be fair that I shall write a proper review of the last dinning I had when next I visit. And I shall be revisiting them, now how does the pie compare to other establishments the airport cafe has good pies but I am driving to hope from chilliwack just for the pies should be a better clarification. Shall re-review proper and not be swayed by overindulging in pies.
