Great fish and chips and quite an extensive menu. Was a chilly day which took a bit away from the experience, but they have ketchup available at the push of a button! (Not a pump). Would definitely go again on a warm day!
This was the second time we had fish and chips on the same trip and though the fish breading paled in comparison, the tartar sauce made up for it.
I’ve come here a few times, mostly because it’s close to home and my boyfriend is a former employee and friend of many people connected to Barb’s. I’ve heard the lines during this time of year are looong. I can’t blame anything but the great food they offer. Many times I’ve had their chowder, which I should convince the owner to sell me a bucket of since its that addictive. Not only that, the Barb’s burger is absolutely to die for if you want a burger that’ll stick to your ribs and leave you satisfied. The employees are great and their little notification pucks are great for when you want to take a stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf before devouring what should be considered one of the best fast food joints you’ll ever lay tastebuds on.. Definitely worth any wait.
I have been here a few times when traveling in Victoria–last time was in the summer of 2013. There is nothing wrong at all with the fish & chips, but I wasn’t overly wowed. I found the wait to be long, and the condiments had to be fought over from people keeping them at their tables. The fries are unmemorable as well. The real treat is the setting (if you don’t mind fighting birds and people for a clean table), and as a previous poster mentioned, strolling to check out the nearby houseboats, is the best part of the whole experience.
The food was average. Nothing special. Garlic toast was the best out of everything ordered. The clam chowder was not good. Barely any clams.
Disappointment. Very disappointed today. We have been coming to Barb’s for close to 20 years. We have always had friendly service, and they have always been accommodating. My wife loves the Clam strips and we have always been able to get it as a Clam strip dinner. You make a chicken strips dinner. Clam and chicken strip sides are the same price, so how hard could it be to make the clam strips dinner. I didn’t even ask for a special price, the server wasn’t sure if it could be done so he asked someone else that he said was the supervisor. The supervisor rudely said no they can order a small fries. Well we didn’t order the fries, she loves the dinner aspect as you usually included coleslaw, a few more fries and the clam strips. Needless to say, we aren’t going to rush back. A little courtesy would have gone a long way. Ps: We had traveled from Campbell River to Victoria just to have lunch at Barbs.
Average at best!!. Don’t go to this place when its busy, customer service goes down the drain. Ketchup was out and wasn’t even looked into for about 45 mins. Had to eat my fries without ketchup. Fish was bland. I have had better fish and chips in Central Alberta. Average at best. Portions are great though. Wont go back for sure!!
