It isn’t usual to visit the same restaurant for 4 days in a row as a tourist, but this place was an exception for me! My husband and I enjoyed our food here so much til we left for our home. We had sushi rolls, sushi combo, hot dishes, and some appetizers. Sashimi was consistently so fresh, the amount of rice for each sushi roll was just adequate (I hate it when the sushi rolls are big and made with too much rice with lots of sauce on top-you think it makes you full but it actually is just some shitty food by whomever doesn’t know how to make sushi) The sushi rice was exceptionally well seasoned. I tried other famous sushi places in Victoria while staying there for over a month. even the most famous one has very bland sushi rice, huge disappointment. Hands down this restaurant has the best sushi rice. Their tempura and udon were so good when it was a bit cold outside. Service was friendly, too.Overall, we will come back next year again for sure with more family.

Decent sushi. Walking in I only saw a couple people sitting in, but it seems to be a popular takeout place with orders consistently coming in. I didn’t see my go to rolls on here, such as the T.N.T. Roll and some other fun rolls, but I tried some new stuff. Started with the Tako Nigiri: Raw octopus over pressed vinegared rice. The Tako was good, fresh and pressed well. Sushi rolls I tried… Niagara Roll: cucumber, avocado, fresh mango, with strawberry yogurt on top. I ordered this unusual roll out of curiosity. Tried it by itself to see what it was about, and didn’t know what to think of it. The mango inside was sour and the yogurt helped neutralize it a bit, but it wasn’t anything that wowed me. The cucumber gave it that nice crunch, so it wasn’t completely soft. Eating it with soy sauce gave it a pretty interesting fruity and salty taste, but I don’t think it made it any better or any more enjoyable. A roll I didn’t particularly understand and probably wouldn’t order again. Second was the BBQ Beef Roll: imitation crab meat, avocado with Korean style chopped BBQ beef. Very simple roll, I ordered it for the meat – obviously. I expected very flavourful meat, but it was kinda faint. I’m a Korean bbq lover and I did get a taste of it with this roll, but I felt like it was missing something as it was a bit on the bland side.Last roll was the Spicy Teriyaki Roll: California roll topped specially cooked fish meat. Wanted to try this California roll mix, which was alright. Pretty fishy taste to it which was fine but it for sure masked the ingredients in the roll itself. Would have enjoyed some tempura flakes or something to give it a little crunch with every bite. Wasn’t too crazy about this roll, I would rather just get the traditional California. Finshed my meal with the Beef Udon: Sanuki udon noodles, thinly sliced beef and assorted vegetables in fish broth. I actually really enjoyed this dish, it was simple yet flavourful. Both the beef and broth were tasty. I usually like to add a bit of soy sauce to my soup but this one didn’t need it. I would say this place was alright overall, I probably ordered the wrong rolls but I am glad I tried them either way. Service was friendly, location was quiet and chill. Not bad.

It is actually a mix of Korean and Japanese cuisine. Although it is not an authentic Japanese restaurant, the food is really delicious especially the hot meal. I ordered a Katsu Don and a Bibimbap. I found that both dishes have the same mushroom. I meant they put the mushroom in bibimbap into Katsu don.

The cooked food is actually not bad, but the sushi is only so-so. I like their sesame chicken and beef udon but the sushi rolls we ordered was bland and tasted like it was missing something. Friendly and fast service though

This is my neighbourhood go-to restaurant … if I can get a table, since the place is not big. And when it’s full, the serving staff could get behind in filling up water/tea. I only go for their sashimi dish as the fish are consistently fresh – 4 stars. However, I cannot say the same for some other a la carte dishes – 3 stars.

Sushi Matsuri is easy to miss, with a small front on a strip of businesses located in the cozy neighborhood of James Bay. As a resident, this place is extremely go-to. Service is friendly and fast, though not often the greatest when it comes to remembering all the items on your order. The food is fresh and precisely what you’d expect from a tiny Japanese restaurant, though it does need some deep cleaning to be given a better rating. Overall worth the fair price when it comes to quality and service.

Delicacy in small portions. I ordered the Appetizer Sashimi and the Sushi C, with real crab. The fish was amazing, some of the best I’ve had. The tuna melted in my mouth and everything was the perfect temperature. Flavors were beautiful and light, just as sushi should be in my opinion. The Appetizer Sashimi came with a small, bright pink rose-bud and it was the perfect touch (I ate the rose). The Appetizer Sashimi was a small portion, which I was not expecting, but the Sushi C was a decent amount. My meal costed around $45.00 with the double scoop green tea iced cream. Excellent meal overall.
