Under the haughty eyes of the conquistador staring at us from a painting straight out if my best friend’s parents’ 1970s living room we ate two of the oddest omelettes I have ever encountered. They were not so much omelettes as pancakes made out of egg with the requisite fillings embedded inside. This may not sound promising but they were tasty. I could have personally done without the croissant which wasn’t contributing its fair share to the combination. Toast would have been better (especially since there were packets of peanut butter available-a small touch that will make me love a place forever). The hash browns were neither here nor there. Whatever it’s failings, the place makes up for them with super friendly staff, the soon to be famous (I’m sure) cinnamon flavoured coffee and an ambience that I would lamely describe as an homage to 90s thrift store goth (or something like that). Go there. This place deserves to survive.

Great Breakfast. It’s hard to find decent breakfast places in Vancouver that aren’t a) always packed (e.g. Cafe Medina), b) overpriced (just about all of them), c) a crappy chain (e.g. Ricky’s or Denny’s), or d) just plain unpleasant (e.g. Elbow Room).Enter LanaLou’s. An unpretentious little eatery tucked away on Powell, I recently had breakfast here with some friends on a sunny Sunday morning and we did not regret it. Breakfast should be quick, inexpensive and not fussy – and LanaLou’s succeeds on all fronts. I had bacon and eggs, which came with the usual sides of toast and chunky potatoes and (as a pleasant surprise) some fresh fruit salad. The eggs were done perfectly and the bacon was actually properly done (i.e., fully cooked and not half-raw – other Vancouver restaurants should take note). For about $6 including coffee, the price was certainly right. I am shocked at the number of people in this city who happily shell out $15 or more for bacon and eggs at other places – breakfast should never, ever cost more than $10 including tax and tip, unless you’re going to some fancy brunch buffet that serves crabs legs and has a chocolate fountain. Service was friendly, prompt and attentive. My only complaint – I didn’t really care for the coffee, which seemed to have loads of cinnamon and possibly some sort of sweetener dumped into it. Maybe next time I’m there I’ll ask if they have regular plain coffee instead, otherwise I think I’ll go with tea. All in all, a solid performance. This is my new favourite place for breakfast.

My favorite meal is brunch. Every sat and Sunday For years I have been trying to find the best brunch spots all over the world. LanaLous is refinery up there on the list it is by far the Best weekend brunch in Vancouver! The hollandaise is made from scratch with every order which compliments the bennys on a fresh croissant.

Pleasantly Suprised. I went to LanaLou’s for the first time this week for brunch. My friends and I were greeted at the door by a friendly lady (Lana) who recently opened this restaurant with her husband (Lou). From what I saw, it looked like the place must have had a rockin good time the night before..as they have live music sometimes (7 -10pm)The brunch selection was awesome, creative and affordable, the average breakfast was $7-$9. I ordered the Salmon Benny which came on a croissant with Hollandiase sauce made from scratch that morning. Food was 9/10. My friends’ breakfasts all looked deliciously good as well. The ambiance was good (hipster vibe), it could have been a little cleaner, lots of wires, cables hanging about. A few booths had clothes and magazine strewn around, which made the place looked a little disheveled. All in all, I would recommend this place to friends.
