Popped in here after brunch at The Belgard Kitchen for a quick coffee and shield from the rain. I didn’t get anything to eat, so I can’t comment on the quality of food (although judging from other reviews, I really missed out!) but the aesthetic of this place is sweet. It’s not big inside but as a corner coffee shop in Railtown, it’s great. The mural inside is super cool, and they have a great selection of food and pastries. They were also playing exclusively 60s rock music and I’m so down for that. I’m ready to go back for some grub soon!
If your looking to host a catering event for lunch that is simple and satisfying, railtown did an amazing job. They provided all the bowls and cutlery, the plating was done wonderful, and their service is very customer connected. My favourite dish was their salmon. I was expecting it to be a touch dry, but it wasn’t. The sandwiches were big and filling, with a nice variety of layers. I definitely recommend their lunch catering menu. Would I call them again? Yes, absolutely. It got the job done, and most importantly, they were on time. My biggest pet peeve is when a catering company is late…
This place is awesome. Just look at the arrays of roast meat ready to match up with the most delicious and fresh veggies. I only go there for salads and I don’t ever willingly order salad for any part of my meals. These are so good and satisfying unlike one of those hipster skimpy ones with 2 slivers of processed meat and 3 pieces of lettuce.
Do order: anything really.I’ve been back multiple times and never leave disappointed. Whether you feel like a sandwich, soup or salad, this place does the fanciest version of them all. You also have the option to build your own, but really, try their combination first. During my most recent visit, I ordered a beef brisket sandwich dip. Mannnn I salivate thinking about it. The beef brisket was sooo moist with the right amount of fat in-between the meat layers. Juices soaked into the crispy toasted baguette that held everything tighter including crispy onions and pesto. The au jus was nice but the sandwich itself already had so much flavour to it.Side chickpea salad was tasty. Crispy, fragrant with parmesan. So satisfying! dimsumtrail.wordpress.com
Jun 2017 visit: Howe StOrdered the Kale Salad, with orange, peas, honey carrots, sliced almonds, and a lemon olive oil dressing. This salad was a disappointment, so bland in flavour (was there no seasoning in the dressing?) that I had to add lots of extra salt and steal salted pork from my friend’s spinach salad. The peas are also hard to scoop and eat with the liquidy dressing, and were likely quickly blanched to keep their texture. This however, did not add to the flavour.I wouldn’t order this again, maybe try assembling my own salad next time. Combined score with previous sandwich visit.Feb 2017 visit: Howe StOrdered the chicken club, pretty standard first-timer pick with super juicy (sous vide?) chicken breast, bacon, and arugula on a thick foccacia bun. And I mean thick! Had to peal off half of both bread pieces (the good olive oil parts!) to get a better bread to filling ratio. Very good sandwich, great flavours and moistness. Also got a side of quinoa salad which was absolutely delicious and super creamy with crunchy chickpeas, great flavours from the grapes and roasted cauliflower, and a tamarind coconut dressing.
Railtown is a must stop every time I’m in Vancouver. I love the soups, sandwiches and salads. You just can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Chef Dan is always a pleasure to meet so be sure to ask to say hello!!
Surprisingly disappointing. Visited when they had the half-off sandwich and salad deal but I honestly thought the meal was not even worth the half-price.First of all, all the sandwich contents were so off! There were only some meat and they place it in the middle making it appear like it was stuffed full. Both the Rueben and pork had nicely cooked meat but they were definitely underseasoned. The biggest letdown was the fact the bread wasn’t toasted so it was just a dry and sad mess. The kale salad had WAY too much apple slices, making the whole thing tasting like a dessert bowl instead of a savory one.The three-meat chilli actually had great flavors but it was strangely runny, unlike any good chilli I’ve had. thehappysloths.com
