Let me say one thing. The chicken here is one of the best, if not the best, Korean-style fried chicken I’ve ever eaten. The funny thing is that I’ve lived in the area for almost 10 years and I haven’t heard of Boom Beer until a friend from Coquitlam recommended it to me! The marinated fried chicken was my highlight – perfectly cooked, and the sauce that accompanies it is sweet with the perfect hint of spice. That is just how I like it.A tip for the people who don’t enjoy getting too handsy with their chicken, go for the boneless option. There were a few times when I guessed there were no bones in a bite of chicken, only to find a big one crunching in my mouth, whoops. Now, the food here is great, especially at the price they charge for it, but the service could definitely use some work. You know that moment when you get your food, and you eat for ~5 minutes, and a server comes to ask how everything is? You don’t get that here. We had to constantly wave down a server to ask for more water and napkins. Although this sounds quite picky, I think I’m just too accustomed to servers consistently asking if we need anything. It’s probably just me.
We went here for my friends 19th birthday (on the day of his birthday) the manager refused to serve him alcohol claiming he wasn’t allowed to legally drink until the day after his 19th birthday. Worst manager ever he needs to redo his serving it right apparently. The manager also refused to talk to us themselves. Went to Big Chicken Town down the street instead and so should you.
First time coming here with my friends and I have to say, It was really really good. Although there can be some changes with the boneless portions, let me say! IT WAS GREAT.The original fried chicken was spiced just right, It was crispy, crunchy and delicious.Cheese Buldok was my favorite, the cheese and the special marinaded chicken just fit together like a puzzle, SUPER SCRUMPTIOUS. UPDATE AFTER A YEAR: place is amazing, staff is very friendly and welcoming, great restaurant to eat if you’re ever craving that korean fried chicken!
Tbh I have been to boom beer in the past and liked their chicken. I had a bad experience about year ago while ordering some takeout about a half an hour prior to their listed closing time. The counter lady was clearly annoyed that I was ordering anything. I still ordered but I normally tip a buck or two when I pick up takeout-but passed on that and didn’t go back. However, a friend wanted to eat here and I didn’t object. The chicken still tastes the same and the lady working the front end is also the same. The original fried chicken is very good. Not overly breaded. It’s hot and fresh. It’s better to order the original fried and order their house spicy chicken marinade sauce on the side as opposed to ordering their marinated fried chicken. It’s crispier and the sauce can be a bit much. The Squid Somyeon we ordered was pretty good. The corn cheese was not. Completely tasteless and very overpriced. We also received a complimentary bowl of egg soup.I would’ve rated it higher based on food but the takeout incident left a lasting impression
Chicken is amazing but be aware that they make up times for last call. They say that they’re open till 12 but they won’t take anymore orders by 11 pm. A couple of times we have went there and it was closed when it should be open. Biggest tip: order before 11 and not a minute after. Great food but needs improvement.
I pretty much go here for the cheesy chicken booldak and maybe a pitcher of beer. I’ve dragged some friends here before and they all enjoyed the food. Service is decent but the food comes quick.
You just have to love this place. As soon as you sit down, you get popcorn with your beer followed by some of the best fried chicken you’ve ever had, This place is seriously good and should be on everyone’s drunken radar.I must admit that the marinade sauce is missing something… a bit of heat would go a long way. Not that you’ll notice though. Everything about this place is amazing.
