I loved my experience here! One of the nicest Japanese restaurants I’ve been too. Interior’s really cool and there’s plenty of space. They even have big tables on their second floor but I didn’t get to experience that this time. Superb, quick service and lots and lots of mouthwatering food! I tried their stanley roll, california roll, gyoza, and tuna & salmon sashimi with my friend and they were all so good!! I would rate 10 out of 5 stars if I could! Really high quality food for an excellent price and very impressive.
Ive been to Tengoku a few times before and twice after they renovated. The pre-reno menu was okayrolls were standard quality for any average sushi place in Surrey and Vancouver, which is to say its good if youve only had average sushi in these areas and disappointing if youve had better quality sushi. The post-reno menu is unfortunately worse. You can tell that the seafood used in the sushi and other dishes arent very fresh, even under the various syrupy sauces they drown everything in. Part of why sushi in the Lower Mainland is often so disappointing is because they mess with the ingredients! Ingredients must be fresh enough to actually stand on their own, and when you eat sushi, you should taste good rice, nori, and good quality seafood and vegetablesnot sauce! Tengoku is just one of many many places that drown their overly elaborate rolls in sauce. They have updated their menu to reflect several food trendsramen and oshi. Their ramen is just okay, flavours werent too deep, broth not very silky, noodles were okay. Their oshi is the most disappointing of all. I looooove aburi oshi because the flavours of the fish and eel really stand out after being seared. But you couldnt taste the buttery-ness of the fish or really even taste the seared fish at all because, again, it was drowned in sauces, avocado, tobiko, and green onion. The food is just not very good, the only things I enjoyed were the miso soup and vegetable and shrimp tempura I ordered for appetizers. Service also ranges from okay, not great to pretty bad. I really recommend going somewhere else to eat, and learning how to appreciate sushi that rests on quality and great preparation, not expensive and wacky rolls drowning in sauce that feed your IG instead of your belly 🙁
I have called to place an order and was told since it is lunch they are not taking any orders ???Is this a restaurant or what? If you are not taking orders so what are you doing there???I was a loyal customer but after today I am going somewhere else.
Tengoku is great for fresh, creative sushi. I noticed the food’s had a huge improvement recently and the updated menu has many tasty rolls and combos. If you want unique rolls, I highly recommend the new ones like the mega roll, passion roll, and stanley roll! This place now really stands out compared to all the generic, boring sushi in the city.
New menu is well done, although lacking dinner combos. Best to come at lunch. If the food wasnt as good as it is, my girlfriend and I wouldnt eat here at all due to the absolute worst service, sadly. Always under staffed, every single time. No tip from us, sorry; not sorry.

This is the best sushi in Surrey! The food here is so delicious and fresh. The prices are very affordable while the quality and taste are outstanding. Our server was very friendly and the food came out on time. I really love their rolls and spicy chicken karaage. Will be back more often!
