Terrible hygiene practices, ants in the cupboards, wasps and flies everywhere in the baking section, bad treatment of employees. Overpriced. From a former employee after what I’ve seen of their practices I cannot reccomend enough that you avoid this store and go to Moore’s bakery of Faubourg down the street for better pastries.
I was actually planning on going to Caffe Artigiano today for lunch, but the place is apparently closed for renovations, so I headed off to Cobs instead. The bakery got a really good assortment of sweet and savoury breads and pastries. I went for my usual Ham & Cheese Croissant, and a Raspberry & White Chocolate Scone to satisfy my sweet tooth. The serivce was organized and prompt.Ham & Cheese Croissant ($3.25): 3.5/5; Although relatively tasty, I am a bit disappointed by the croissant: it was quite small in size and lacking in filling. Furthermore, it wasn’t as flaky and buttery as I like. I’d rather stick with the pastries from JJ Beans, Thomas Haas, or even Faubourg right down the block.Raspberry & White Chocolate Scone ($2): 4/5; I really liked the texture: it was quite soft and very moist in the center.. Although I do wish that there were more berries/white chocolate, the dough itself was tasty enough on its own. Like the croissant, it was a bit on the small side, but for only about $2, I do think that the size is reasonable.Overall, Cobs has left a relatively positive impression on me. The food is pretty good and the prices are generally reasonable. I’ll be back in the future to try out more of their goods, in particular their danishes and cinnamon buns.
We often like to stop at Cobs in the morning for some freshly baked goods. We have a rotation of goods we like to order, which include the ham and cheese/spinach and feta croissant, pesto scroll, jalapeno twist and the chocolate croissant. All delicious!Kerrisdale is always busy so parking can be hard to find so we usually park on a side street by the TD bank.
We don’t know whether they just hire the right people or if the training is really good, but regardless, the service is fantastic. Oh yeah, we like the breads and baked goods, too.
