This is a Chinese-style bakery on 41st Avenue in Kerrisdale. Although quite small, they do have a pretty big selection of various breads and buns, as well as cakes. I picked up a couple of their buns (Pineapple with B.B.Q. Pork Bun, a Pork Sung Roll, and a Chicken Pineapple Pie) for lunch, and found them to be quite decent in general, although I did find their BBQ pork bun to be lacking in filling. The prices are fair and in line with what you’d expect from Asian bakeries. While I do prefer other places like Maxim’s, this still isn’t a bad place to grab a few Chinese-style treats.Pineapple with B.B.Q. Pork Bun ($1.95):3/5The bun itself seemed quite fresh, and had a nice fluffy texture as well as a crispy, sweet top. The bbq pork filling had a nice sweet flavour (without being overwhelming so) and was quite tender. Unfortunately, I found them to be quite stingy with the filling and only about 1/4-1/3 of the bun contained filling.Pork Sung Roll ($1.95):3.5/5This consisted of a folded bun sandwiching a filling of mayonnaise and pork floss. Once again the bun was soft and fluffy. The mayonnaise had a great creaminess that paired well with the savoury flavour from the pork floss.Chicken Pineapple Pie ($1.60):3.5/5The pie contained chicken, some corn, and pieces of pineapple. I personally didn’t really care too much for the pineapple; they didn’t really bother me, but they didn’t add anything either. There was a pretty decent amount of chicken, which was quite tender. I quite liked the crust, which was tender and had a nice sweetness.
The taro toast is yummy! Not as good as the ones I had in China but still good enough to make me wanna go back for it. It tastes soft when reheated with microwave. I can finish the whole one within a day.
Tiny hole in the wall bakery in Kerrisdale. I’ve been here a couple of times, and every time I pass it by, it has been super empty. The last time I bought a bacon roll and a BBQ chicken bun. While the chicken bun was good, the bacon one had a really weird flavor which made it hard for me to finish eating it. Considering how bacon on almost everything makes it better, this was a huge letdown. Plus the bacon was inside the roll and chewy and tough. I don’t think I’m going there again.
Terrible. Purchased 2 slices of cake Friday afternoon. Went to eat them Sat. afternoon, after they’d spent the the previous 24hrs in my clean fridge in their box. One slice looked okay, the other was full of mold. Disgusting! It was our 1st time picking something up there. Needless to say, we’ll never be back.
I bought a chicken teriyaki bun from there yesterday and it was filled with mostly green peppers with a TINY piece of chicken. Not impressed…
