Quality is dropping… fake capicollo abounds. George’s has been good in the past. Their crust is still good. However, their overall quality is dropping, and they are engaging in some questionable and deceptive practices. In particular, they still claim to have capicollo, but what ends up on the pizza is no such thing. In Canadian terms, capicollo should be a spicy cured pork product. George’s uses plain old ham that they sprinkle with chili flakes. I have witnessed this on three occasions. I understand that the demand for capicollo may not be high, but to deceive your customers in such a manner is a highly questionable practice. Next thing you know they will be chopping up hot dogs and telling you it is Italian sausage.
Still the best!. I’ve had pizza from all over North America and after my recent return to Vancouver I discovered, to my delight, that George’s now delivers. The pizza was every bit as enjoyable as I remember from many, many years ago so thanks for keeping the quality consistent! Best pizza ever! Hot and melty and exactly what I ordered. Highly recommend this pizza joint! Cheers!
Long wait. Okay service, but they don’t tell you that they will make you wait for a long time even when you just order one item.
After Shopping. After Sunday shopping we decided to try one of their pizza’s for lunch/dinner. Went for the No.5 with Italian sausage on thin crust. My wife commented right away that there was too mush garlic and I mentioned that they could have used half the green pepper and less cheese with a little more sausage, otherwise it wasn’t bad and the crust was decent. Before leaving I spoke to the chef/owner about my suggestions and she mentioned that they have been using the same recipes that the previous owner had used. I suggested that they maybe take a look at changing tastes. Also, I feel that the mozzarella cheese topping (if in fact it was mozzarella) was not a good quality. They probably need to tweek all their pies to bring them into 21st century tastes. Remember, not every nationality can make good pizza, but then I am biased as I am Italian and know good pizza! Ciao!26 Apr, 2014Our Anniversary. Wanted to try someplace different for our anniversary on April 16 so I booked a reservation at Martini’s on West Broadway. Wow, what a disappointment! So loud you could not hear yourself think so we left as soon as we got there and headed off for another place. We stopped in at George’s Pizza on the Boulevard in Kerrisdale and what a difference. It was half filled but you could actually carry on a normal conversation. We both had the lamb dinner with a bottle of Chardonnay and the bill including tip came to less than $70. The lamb was superb and I recommend you try their special on Wednesday nights. We plan to go back soon for more of the lamb and try some of the other dinners.
Best in vancouver. For years we’ve been searching for a good pizza… tonight we found one !!cozy… friendly.. and great pizza..
Love it!. After years of living away from the neighbourhood, I moved back, within a walk of George’s (which used to be Apollo’s when my brother was a pizza delivery boy). Dropped in with a new neighbour and loved it. Have taken friends from my old neighbourhood and my cousin from Coquitlam. My neighbours loved it so much, they booked our next dinner there. I am about to order from it tonight, to watch the rebroadcast of the 2014 Olympics Opening Ceremony.
Best Pizza in town–Really. They are open for lunch starting this May and we had the good fortune to need a take out pizza to serve an elderly shut in…WOW were we impressed, from out 95 year old friend to our 2 year old grandson..everyone said the pizza was great!! It was just Pepperoni, Mushroom and extra cheese but it was delicious. I did not know they have been there since 1973, having gone to Minerva’s on 41st many times for dinner, who is not open for lunch and did not know about George;s when I asked them for a recommendation- interesting??…we will be back…thanks…Ron
