As others have mentioned, the service is terribly slow at Shota, so expect a long wait for your food. We ordered salmon sashimi, a sushi combo, and the nabeyaki udon. The food was average, nothing spectacular. For prices we paid, we were surprised at how small the portions were.Next time we’re in Kerrisdale, we’ll try another sushi place down the street. We would not recommend Shota.

Very poor service with so-so food. The food is mediocre. The service extremely poor. It’s Saturday evening and we decided to have early dinner at 5:30pm. Party of 3, ordered 3 items. Assorted Sashimi, Philadelphia roll and Yosenabe hotpot. The waitress repeated the order. Took 10 mins for anything to come. Sashimi came with a tiny dollop of wasabi – the size of a dime – honestly. No pickled ginger. We asked for extra wasabi and ginger. We had to remind them 10 mins later that we are still waiting. After waiting for half and hour still no sign of the Yosenabe hotpot. Got the attention of the waitress. She said she will check on it. After another 15 mins passed and we had to tell them we don’t want it anymore. We are not hungry anymore. Thanks but no thanks. We would like very much to support the shops and restaurants in our neighbourhood, sorry Shota, not you.
Very disappointing experience. A week or so ago, we had take-out from Shota Sushi and we ordered cream cheese rolls for the kids. To our shock and horror, the cream cheese was mouldy and off. We contacted Shota immediately by telephone and no rectification was offered. To say that we will never return would be an understatement. This establishment should have it’s licence revoked! This is a terribly unfortunate ending considering we have been loyal customers for many years. Do not eat at Shota Sushi!
Service was bad compare to the price I paid. Rolls are expensive and didn’t stand out its flavour. Other Jap and Korean restaurant on 41st have reasonable price and offers better service. Avoid this place unless you don’t care much about the food and price.
