Things so beautiful, it makes you cryMont Saint-Michel in France. Works by Rembrandt. Lawrence of Arabia. My girlfriends face while shes asleep.Pieces of Eight by Styx. With that, I also add the cheese display at Carmelis Goat Cheese Artisan. Im weird.Ive been reviewing wineries for several years but seldom get the opportunity to review a location centered around my first love. Well, second, first is Tron. Most firsts occur when young, so technically, it would have to be chocolate first, then Tron, then Porsches, and then cheese. Sharks and Lego come up behind, along with pushing a tape into a VCR. Man, I miss doing that. But yeah. Cheese. Love it. Grew up with cheddar, and later, I expanded to those wondrous artisan offerings found on charcuterie boards. In Edinburgh, I discovered Snowdonia Cheese Company and was overjoyed to find it in Canada not long after (though not in my home town, to my ire). I had declared them the best cheese for the price until I found Carmelis. Actually, I didnt discover it; I was told about it by a lovely lady at Cedar Creek Estate Winery, oddly enough the ONLY thing I remember from that place. Its weird; they must have used that Men in Black neutralizer on me. I have a bottle of wine from them I dont recall purchasing. But I do know that after receiving said endorsement, my girlfriend and I immediately went about locating Carmelis Goat Cheese. That does involve a slightly labyrinthine journey, eventually leading up a substantial incline. You know goats love their mountains. Upon reaching the estate, we opted to park on the side of the road, unsure if the entrance road was even accessible to the public. Upon reflection, I think it was also because we were worried the entire hillside was going to fall away. Is it supposed to look like this? Did they have a mudslide? The entire region spreading from Carmelis resembles a scene from The Road. I was worried the estate was moments from sliding downhill. I guess thats perfect for goats and their annoying sense of balance. And they have ice cream. Because reasons. And ice cream. Being March, there was not a lot of business this day, so we enjoyed the hosts undivided attention. He was younger, so assumingly not the owner, but he certainly knew his cheese. Unlike wineries, there was no tasting fee for samples, so we enjoyed them all. My girlfriend is admittedly not a fan of goat cheese, and you know how couples areso I bought one of everything in the shop. I dont actually do what she tells me. They were amazing, changing my views on how goat cheese should look, smell, feel, or taste. Of all the locations we visited that day, from Tantalus and Sperling to Cedar Creek and unfortunately Summerhill, Carmelis Goat Cheese Artisan was the one I remember the most fondly. We boast an impressive wine collection, mostly acquired the previous year when we hit up sixty wineries in a week, returning with 120 bottles. If I could, I would replace them all with wheels of cheese. Wow, that would be expensive, and very difficult to maintain. We tried to return a few months after our initial visit but ran out of time, so it looks like its the web store for us from now on. I love Carmelis Goat Cheesenot sure if that was discernable by this point, and you should not travel to this part of Kelowna without checking them out. Unless you are lactose intolerant, in which case stay silent as your friends enjoy the experience. Dont spoil this for them. You had your rice milk.
Divine Gelato AND cheeses!!!. A cheese tasting at Carmelis is not only a culinary experience but also an enriching learning journey. My family loves the raw milk cheeses which are easier to digest. My favorite is the peppered aged LIOR and the goatgonzola. I use them in everything, from salads to lasagna, but best yet is when I get a selection for a large cheese platter – many of my parties have been a success due to it!How about their gelatos? Oh MY ! You absolutely have to try the salted caramel and chocolate hazelnut – take extra in a large container, as you cannot get it anywhere close to here! A wonderful family owned and operated business, that I wish we would have for a long time in our area!!!
Cheese!. A delicious place to do a tasting of cheese or tour the grounds. They have a nice spot on the lake for views and photos. I went here just before Thanksgiving to grab some appies for lunch with my visiting family. Summer time they make their own gelato as well! thewanderfulltraveler.com
