Sushi Taku is a Japanese restaurant located on Joyce St, Vancouver. The location of the restaurant is 5 mins walking distances from the Joyce Skytrain station. Its very convenient for people to find it and park cars. My boyfriend and I had dinners twice at this place since we moved back to Vancouver. We had the different feeling in each time. The 1st time visit:The first time visited Sushi Taku, was at the beginning of July. My boyfriend found this place online. We arrived at the restaurant around 8 pm and had a late dinner there. Its a super small Japanese restaurant. There are only four small tables and two big tables inside the restaurant. It was very busy at that time. We were luckily found a table and began ordered the food. We had seaweed salad, Appetizer Sashimi, Bacon & Cream Cheese Roll and Sushi Pizza to share. After we ordered the food, the seaweed salad came first. It seems like a pre-made salad, but the taste was OK. Appetizer Sashimi was 3 pieces Salmon Sashimi and 3 pieces tuna Sashimi. Both Salmon and Tuna were fresh and large size. Next, Sushi Pizza was made of deep fried rice, salmon, tuna, avocado, and beets on top. The deep-fried rice was very soft and tasty. The top made sushi pizza more delicious. I love this dish. Our last dish was the Bacon Cream Cheese Roll. OMG. The roll was very tasty and delicious. The roll was made of cream cheese, green bean with bacon wrapped on top, which was a very unique combination. The prices of food were not expensive. All together were under $40 for two people, which was a great deal. We enjoyed our first experience at Sushi Taku. The 2nd time visit:The second time visited Sushi Taku, was on my boyfriends birthday. We gotta there early around 5:00 pm. The restaurant was not busy. Only one customer was eating at the restaurant. We sat at the big table. We had Seaweed Salad, Sunny Roll, Volcano Roll, and Salmon Combo this time. Seaweed salad was the same as last time. Volcano roll was made of cali roll, seared scallop o top, which was great. Sunny Roll was yam roll, seared spicy tuna with yam crunchy on top. I dont really like Sunny Roll. The crunchy was overcooked. Salmon Combo was included 3 salmon sashimi, 3 salmon nigiri and salmon roll. The sashimi were not very fresh. My boyfriend thought sashimi and other special rolls tasted very different. The prices were the same as last time. The taste of all rolls were not as good as last time. But, we still enjoyed the birthday dinner at Sushi Taku. food.belindajin.com

Sushi Taku was chosen for lunch recently. We (threesome) arrived just after it opened at 11:30 am, and found a parking spot on Joyce Street right in front (a non-metered, 2-hour parking area). The restaurant is a very small, take-out and eat-in place, offering just four tables should one wish to do the latter – we went to dine in, and had our pick of the tables, as there were no other customers at the time. We found the restaurant clean (and that included the rather cute washroom), and quiet (no loud music, tvs, or the like). Service was prompt, friendly and personable – our server checked often during our stay to see if there was anything she could do for us – kept our tea mugs full – and always with a nice, big smile and thank you. What was ordered: note: dishes came to our table in a very timely manner and expected sequence. spicy agedashi tofu (creamy tofu, light coating, spicy sauce) – tofu cubes were sweet and creamy, with thin, crusty coverings – sauce had a flavourful, spicy taste, its texture though, rather thin (which made for some soggy cubes at the bottom of the dish). appetizer tempura (w/prawn, yam, squash, green bean) – tempura batter was thin and crispy, and the ingredients very nicely-prepared. seafood yaki soba (stir-fried soba noodles, w/assorted seafood and veggies) – hot and sizzling to the table, it looked good – felt it was a touch short on soba noodles, but they, and the other ingredients (a rather nice assortment of small pieces of seafoods and veggies, and lightly-flavoured stock/sauce), had been well-prepared, and made for a rather tasty dish.- vege combo (vege roll, yam roll, and avocado roll) – good portion size, preparations though, lacked in flavour and taste – and the sushi rice and laver seaweed coverings were a touch dry. sushi combo: deluxe nigiri combo (w/salmon, tuna, ebi, tako, chopped scallop, and two free extra pieces, and dynamite roll) – good portion size, but for me, it sure looked better than it tasted – the preparations had been made and served too warm, sashimi toppings for the nigiri lacked firm textures, sweet flavours, and tastes I have come to expect when ordering sushi/sashimi dishes – and there was no dynamite in the the roll, and like the other rolls tried, the rice and laver seaweed coverings tasted a little chewy. Our dining experience at Sushi Taku had some good, and some disappointing points. It was definitely fun to have finally made it there – to see and experience the place and its neighbourhood location (lots of fond memories from my teen years) – the total experience was a big A-ok. I just wish the food could have generated a touch more enthusiasm to our visit, and my review.

This place just opened up a little while ago and I’ve been eager to try it out. Right when you walk in you receive a very warm welcome. We received our food right away and the presentation was excellent. The quality of the sushi rolls was very good. I was very impressed. It was delicious! I had the chicken roll, dragon roll, and collingwood roll. The gyoza was a nice crispy addition. They were very friendly and I will definitely go back. Excellent price and top quality food.

As others have mentioned, this is a newly opened sushi joint that is only a 30 second walk from the Joyce skytrain station. I decided to visit with a few friends last week with no particular expectations other than to check it out for a quick dinner, and I’m very glad we did. The interior is clean and minimal, with simple decor. It is a very small restaurant seating only a maximum of about 25 people, which wasn’t a problem for me – I personally take this as a great sign, the best gems always seems to be from these hole in the wall restaurants. Staff was very friendly and greeted us warmly before seating us.We ordered a few specialty roles such as the dragon roll and taku toll as well as some basic nigiris and standard rolls. The quality of sushi was incredibly fresh and the prices were VERY reasonable. The seasoning on the sushi rice was perfect in acidity and was cooked to perfection – warm and soft and but not disintegrating when you pick it up. Every roll we had was delicious – but what really impressed me was the quality and freshness of the fish they used. Will definitely visit again and is definitely the best of the sushi joints in the joyce collingwood area (hyago is great but pricey, kishu river is awful, and van-ya has gone downhill in recent years after changing owners). DEFINITELY GIVE THEM A TRY. Took half a point off for seating accommodation but definitely worth it to wait or to get take out!

Just got take out. The roll bento is a really good deal! Very generous tempura and California roll portions. You get 8 pieces instead of the usual 6. Only small complaint is that the teriyaki could use a bit more sauce, slightly dry. Will come back to try some special rolls too!

Salmon combo, fresh and really good. Ebi Sunomono was good, which was nice because it’s hard to find good sunomono. Green salad was good with avocado slices, peppers etc…but, the dressing was NOT good. Not the usual Japanese dressing. My husband says the tempura and chicken teriyaki was good but they forgot our tempura sauce. I would go again!
