Should have read the reviews before we tried for the first and the last time! Ordered both burgers without lettuce or tomato and the one had lettuce and tomato (the girl at the cashier was not the sharpest tool in the shed….no personality!) And the sauce was all over the outside of the burger, couldn’t as much as lift it out of the paper without it falling apart and getting it all over your hands! My husband took his back because of the lettuce and tomato and they did remake it although again the bun was saturated in sauce so he took it back for a second time and they didn’t even give or offer him a refund! What a huge first time disappointment! Wally’s
Love this place. Ate here 2 days ago. Recommend it for young and old. What more can I say. I take the #49 bus east and then return on the #49 UBC.
Wallys Burgers has been in business since 1962. This location is not labeled on the mall sign, so you might not know it is there unless you are looking for it.I ordered the veggie burger; about the third best vegetable patty I have had after Burger Kings and A&Ws Beyond patty. The burger was delicious but oh-so-messy; it would be nice to have (metal) forks for those who cant handle it. The sweet potato fries were a little too salty and mostly small bits; my dads theory is that we just ended up with the last part of the bag, and we were the last customers of the day.The milkshakes are great; they have about 40-50 flavours (!) and it is worth coming here just for that. All in all, I recommend it, although be prepared for the mess!
I’ve eaten here a few times. Not a bad burger and since it is in the neighbourhood it’s a good place to go to. Make sure you have plenty of napkins because it’s laden with sauce.
Still the 50’s atmosphere but not the 50’s quality. Had the deluxe Wally burger special 2 for $5.00. Average not great. Fries were done crispy not greasy and the onion rings were done to perfection. For the price a good deal but not outstanding.
My girlfriend got excited when she saw a Wallys burger at this plaza. She loves retro diners with old fashion style shakes with old school music.Plenty of parking outside. I noticed alot of bikers and domestic car enthusiasts eating here. Since I’m a car guy as well I thought I’d give it a shot.Upon entering you’ll notice its small… And it doesn’t seem like there’s a washroom… Minus points for that.We noticed a sign that says if you bring a competitor coupon, they’ll give you two wally burgers for 5 bucks. That’s not too shabby at all, we saw a couple bringing in a coupon and they added fries and a shake to their meal. Good savings. But how is the food? Our burgers were delicious. However we knew right away these patties are not in-house made, tasted like a corporate wholesaler supplier. It didn’t discourage our experience but I can see many foodies noticing.I got the mushroom Swiss and the bun was delightful. It wasn’t heavy at all. My girlfriend loved the shake, although it could have been thicker. The summer heat can really bring the temps down on those cold drinks. Overall it wasn’t a elite rating for me, perhaps a 5/5 in the old days. Service seemed bland with the young girl cashier. The setup is retro but it just lacked the ambiance energy of retro.Take glenberg soda and icecream shop in north Burnaby for example. They stuck with retro, it tasted like retro, and it felt like retro, even when you closed your eyes…. That’s a 5/5.As for wally, nothing is wrong with our dining experience. We felt like it lacked the good ol Times from the past. Perhaps some oldy music tracks and local sourced meats? Or old school car meets once a week?
I ordered the Wally which is one patty, with onions on their regular bun for $4. Which is a wagon bun apparently. What is a wagon bun? I have no idea. I know it is made my a local baker and the patties are made by a local butcher. I do know they have gluten and gluten-free buns are not available.I gather what you see on the bun is their Wallys sauce. I have to say, at first, I was not very impressed visually speaking. And wait! No mustard? No pickles???But! This was a delicious little burger. The bun was crisp but soft on the inside. The burger had that authentic charr that made it feel like it came from a backyard BBQ. The crunch and bite of the onions in the centre on the bottom of the bun finished it off perfectly. That said, I really wish they had sweet potato fries but nope. They had the classic regular fries so I got some gravy to go with them. They, also, were excellent. The one very big disappointment was the shake. I ordered the cappuccino milkshake and was given what tasted like a plain vanilla shake. Absolutely no coffee flavour to it at all. As a vanilla shake, it was thick and delicious but I was really disappointed. I am not a vanilla kind of foodie!I am so impressed with Wallys (other than the milkshake fiasco) that I will be back and next time I am going to get a monstrous burger and enjoy every bite. I give this foodie experience four out of five wooden spoons. If you had gotten my milkshake right, you would have gotten a perfect score. ~ Suzie the Foodie suziethefoodie.com
