This is our go to place for Indian food. Our favorite is vegetable korma with lots of naan, egg plant curry. Sometimes we ordered the butter chicken. I prefer thighs to chicken breast, soI tend to prefer lamb. One time friends of ours ordered a lamb dish that was just perfect, not too much tomato, more yellowish, with reasonably thick sauce. Unfortunately, I dont know which lamb dish it was and we havent come across the same lamb dish yet!

We tried the butter chicken as mild as possible, curry chicken and Tandoori Prawns yummy. All three of us agreed food was de li ci ou s!Special mention to Amar, owner, whose excellent service manners made our visit memorable once again. We will definitely return sooner or later <3
My friend and I must have passed by Akbar’s Own on Broadway about fifty times each, but we only got a chance to visit a few days ago. It was around 9 PM, and the restaurant was fairly empty – just one other table was occupied. The place looks fairly nice, this is not one of your hole in the wall places.We ordered the Mughlai chicken meal, which comes with a small bowl of rice, one naan and one bowl of dal makhani. We found the portions were enough for two people. The chicken and dal were really, really delicious – I don’t think I’ve had better dal makhani anywhere else in Vancouver (but then again, I usually go for butter chicken when eating Indian). I also ordered a glass of salty lassi, which was also very good.Even though they only had one person serving everyone, service was always nice and courteous. Would definitely like to visit again, if I’m in the area 🙂

We’ve only done takeout at Akbar’s own, but they make a damned fine curry. Bold flavours, thick, rich gravies and succulent tandoori chicken are par for the course. Affordable and tasty, Akbar’s Own is worth the visit from any fan of Indian cuisine.
I have been here twice now and the first time about a year or two ago was great and this time The service was really good and friendly but for Indian food it wasn’t as flavourful overall compared to other places we’ve been. Personally I didn’t mind it but we asked for medium heat and there was none in either dish which my boyfriend was unhappy about. Then the potato and basil naan was okay but also lacked a little flavour.
Take-out Chicken Tikka Masala: huge portion and really tasty! Enough food for two meals (lunch tomorrow). Naan was good and pick-up time was reasonable. Would buy this again. This review is for the take-out service only, don’t know what dining in would be like.
