Simply put – it was perfect!. Gracious greetings from the staff, a quiet corner to catch up with a long time friend, and deliciously prepared food: she a rare piece of beef, I a delicious piece of halibut. The beets in the beet salad were perfectly cooked – seasonings appropriate. The experience lacked nothing.

Not worth the hype/lavish reviews – big disappointment!. I have been dining out on average 2/day for the past 22 and there been to almost every restaurant in Vancouver and this is the very first time writing a review as what I experience yesterday caused me to sign up to post. The food was definitely good…but no where near outstanding. Crab salad was kinda bland, scallops and beef tenderloin were very well cooked and definitely solid…but by no means outstanding. Perhaps it was the very poor service we had received that caused the food experience to be somewhat diminished: We were seated at 805pm and after waiting for over 80 minutes for our main course that had still not arrived…I kindly suggested to the waiter perhaps we should order dessert. He frowned and said ‘no don’t worry there is lots of time’ … huh??? I kindly stated that we needed to leave by 940pm and at that point it got worse. The waiter rolled his eyes and slightly shook his head… as if I am been unreasonable or absurb. 1.5 hours is MORE than enough time to serve a 3 course meal…I have done it less than an hour hundreds of times. Reluctantly he rudely handed over the dessert menu. Finally the main courses came and he again said ‘hey just enjoy your meal there is no rush’…perplexed by his comment b/c it is now 925pm I said don’t worry we can finish the main in 10 mins and we proceeded to order dessert letting him know we are celebrating a birthday. He basically rollled his eyes again with a very ridiculous look. When I over heard this waiter telling few other staff ( I confirmed what I heard by the mere fact the other staff looked back at our table and they were shaking their heads concurring with this waiters thoughts about how ridiculous our request to order dessert as the main courses came out). When I overheard the waiter again complain about us that is when we decided it is time to get the bill and cancel the dessert asap. NEVER again will I dine at Bishops.

Good service good food. Considering my party and I went in with jeans and t-shirts I’m very glad they didn’t give off an air of pretentiousness and were still really polite and professional with their service. Food was really nicely flavored and the desserts they offered were very tasty. I’m not a real fan of fine dining in that Vancouver always has other options available that taste just as good but if you’re into treating yourself with a special somebody for valentine’s day I would definately say this would be a pretty good option.

Mouth watering. Been coming to Bishop’s for years, and every time I return I’m reminded why. This time it was a hankering for properly done spot prawns and Bishop’s did not disappoint. Unlike the rubbery offerings of other establishments, these were sweet, delicate and melt-in-your-mouth. Likewise the duck and sablefish were perfectly done, as were previous trips for lamb. John Bishop himself was ever gracious and it is still impressive that he is always available to his customers no matter when you come. Let other people waste their time on newbies; I’ll stick with the tried and true.

Vancouver Delicious!. For years I have made and cancelled reservations at Bishops. Not sure why. We recently dined there and everything about the restaurant was delicious. The menu was small and a little bland and predictable – such as beet and goat cheese salad. It would be nice to see a little more creativity on menu items and no, I am definitely not talking about any sort of exotic creature (meat) or the heart of a rabbit served with mousse froth. I am just suggesting, perhaps a little more variety with perhaps vegetables and cheeses. However, why am I complaining? I loved my meal (which consisted of beets with goat cheese and beef tenderloin, wrapped up with a sundae with salted pecans). The food was very good and it was a most pleasant evening. This is a great restaurant and hats off to the chef!

Very good.. I’ve eaten here many times and have always left with a smile on my face.Fresh and local is the mantra here and with John always makes you feel like you’re family.Expensive but first rate and worth every penny.
