Went here for Dine Out with some girlfriends and we had a great experience. The food was fresh and tasty. The duck was crispy but not too greasy, which was perfect. It looked like a small portion but for me, I was really full afterwards. I especially loved their chocolate mousse dessert. It ranks high among my favourite French restaurants in the city. Expect to pay about $50 or over per person for a meal (main + appy or dessert, plus drinks)… definitely a great place to bring a date. everythingbutweddings.ca

Expensive, poorly cooked food, good dessert, good serviceDon’t order: Foraged mushroom tart, side dish of Brussels sprouts.Order: dessert.Few friends and I came here for a friend’s birthday. Pretty good ambience, service wasn’t bad. We had an attentive an engaging waitress unlike other reviews. Food was a big disappointment. The mushroom tart special was the opposite is refine. For $16 as an appetizer, I didn’t mind the success but I did not feel like there price justified the work put into it. It was more like a square flatbread. A simple piece of dough with unevenly spread sauce on it, topped with mushrooms a big pieces of bacon. The arugula side salad looked sad and boring. The whole dish was lacking sophistication add the ingredients were just placed on an easy dough. When at a French place and a savoury tart is in the menu, I expect a puff pastry dough or some other alternative that gives a parallel textural experience.Side of Brussels sprouts was unexpected. The menu description says nothing about it being deepfried to the point where there is no green left on the vegetable. It was heavily seasoned asking with Parmesan. It was all super dark and oily to where you can barely taste brussel sprouts.I didn’t want to be rude and send both dishes back but I really really did not enjoy my dinner. There price, sophistication, and ingredients were all off. Dessert was good though which is why I didn’t give this place a lower rating. However I won’t consider coming back at all. dimsumtrail.wordpress.com

The food here was tasty, but the service was less than desirable. I was visiting Vancouver for a few days, and went for brunch at Pastis with some friends I had not seen in a long time. I ordered the sausage hash and asked if it was possible for my eggs to be poached medium, rather than soft. The server was so rude after I asked this! My friend ordered the same thing but poached soft and he said ‘the way it should be..not that there is anything wrong with how you ordered them (speaking to me), you just ruined them and it should never be done…’ I just sat and looked at him and he said ‘you’re probably the kind of person who orders their steak ‘well-done’ too’ and then started laughing. He was deliberately embarrassing me! I was with people I don’t see very often and it kind of ruined the experience. I felt uncomfortable and self-conscious afterwards, and my friends thought he was rude as well. He tried to make a few jokes about how he was a ‘shmuck waiter’ when offering me another drink. It was a turn off. And after all that -the eggs came poached hard! As I said, the food was actually good -but the service was a huge turn off. Trying to belittle guests to make them feel like they don’t have ‘class’ says more about the class of the establishment than the customer ever could. Won’t be back and won’t be recommending to anyone.

Still our Favorite French Bistro. We had an uexpected visit to Bistro Pastis Saturday evening. When we arrived around 6:30, there was more than enough room for us even without reservations. But the restaurant was soon full to capacity, which is a testament to John and his staff. Our meal was fantastic from the appetizers to dessert. We’ve been going to Bistro Pastis since it opened in 1999 and It feels like our second home. Never had a bad meal and there is always something on the menu to make us go ‘wow’. Thank you John and keep up the excellence.
