Sushi was fresh but service wasn’t friendly or efficient. You could tell they didn’t care too much just by the way the sushi roll was rolled itself. Decently priced but wouldn’t go back

Relatively inexpensive joint on Kitsilano. I ordered a salmon and tuna don ($15?), and it came with a decent amount of sashimi. They used wild salmon sashimi for this. Keeping in mind that this is the Kitsilano area, I was pretty full for the price. Our table also ordered a salmon oshi to share… karenklee.com

I’ve been a regular customer at Hi Nippon for about 5 years now (It’s my favourite sushi spot), but this evening I have to say, it wasn’t so good. The new server took 20 minutes to bring us our water, and continued to forget things throughout the evening. The quality of the food definitely did not live up to its standards. The sushi was falling apart, probably from the change in rice (not as sticky) and just looked very sloppy compared to usual. It seemed to me that the ownership of Hi Nippon has changed, very unfortunate because it was such an excellent place before. I’m sad to say that I won’t be returning any time soon.

Hi-Nippon use to be my favorite sushi restaurant. Today unfortunately it was bleeding obvious that the ownership has changed hands. The new servers they have hired forgot about us completely. We waited 20 minutes just to get glasses of water and our waitress continued to forget things. The food has changed as well. The rice is different kind which is less sticky and our rolls fell apart easily, the veggie gyoza filling has changed, the tofu nigiri was the worst and the salad was a bit of a bummer. My friend said her salmon and tuna sashimi was still good quality though. Before I could finish dinner my stomach felt very uneasy and swollen. Hi-Nippon has changed into a C class sushi joint when it comes to quality. I am unlikely to return in the near future.

My friend and I love the rolls. We have some udonyam cheese roll and Gyoza. The yam cheese roll is so good love it~ But the tempura is just ok.

After a nice walk along the beach during long weekend, I really want to have sushi for my dinner, I decided to give a try at this restaurant.the waitress recommend their popular oshi sushi, since I had tried other places’ oshi sushi, such as MIKU, kishimoto. I wasn’t really interested into it. but the waitress mentioned, their chief is from MIKU, I decided to give a try. well, I made a right decision, they have the one of the best oshi sushi I have ever had in Vancouver. definitely worth it!

We felt welcome in the intimate atmosphere of Hi Nippon. Our food was fresh and delicious. Ask for biology masters grad Cheri as your waitress. You’re sure to be treated excellently by her.
