Stopped by with my five year old on our way to his school event, the Spring Fling. I had just bought a cake to donate to the school, declined a plastic bag for environmental reasons. I sat down with my son, the place was empty apart from one table. After being seated the server bought the chef out who asked us to leave as we cant bring in our own food, referring to the cake. I explained it was for a school fundraiser and we were not going to eat it there. The chef said it didnt matter because the other table could see the cake. So me and my son were asked to leave due to a being in the possession of a cake. If it was that big of a deal they could have offered to keep it in the kitchen for us while we ate. Disgusting behaviour on their part. I will never go back.
Being coeliac it has been a long lost dream that I would ever taste tempura, teriyaki, gyoza and tofu agadashi ever again. Alas, dreams do come true! I cannot explain the joy it brings me sitting down at Iki, staring at the menu and knowing that I can eat almost everything on that menu. It’s like I don’t even have coeliac when I’m there. I can eat everything I once thought I would never eat again. Not only is most of the food gluten free, it all tastes amazing. It’s so amazing I cannot fathom why there aren’t more restaurants that provide gluten free Japanese food (other than the typical sushi rolls and edamame, without soy sauce). All that’s left to say is thank you Iki, I love you.
Average Sushi, Terrible Hot Food and Not Great Service. Went here for the first time, and it was a very strange experience. I was hesitant about coming in due to some of the other reviews, but I was in the area with friends and they suggested it. Service wasn’t great. Gyoza was cold, but didn’t get to bring it up until we got the bill because in the middle of our meal the staff sat down for their lunch instead of serving their customers. No check ins about the food or drink. Will not be back.
Iki’s is one of the very few places in BC that serves great quality, 100% gluten free sushi. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly about a customers allergies – a great change from most other places in town. Definitely would whole-heartedly recommend this place to any celiac, or anyone looking for fresh/reasonably-priced sushi regardless of dietary restrictions.Even their wasabi is gluten free!!! #mindblown
The food is delicious and a step above in quality from most affordable sushi restaurants in Vancouver. The veggie bento box C is perhaps the best in the city. I never have grilled tofu like that and the portions are generous. They have veggie miso soup but you have to request it. Also this is one of the few sushi joints I’ve seen them wiping down the chairs, walls, etc. my elbows don’t stick to the tables. It’s the little things. Also they speak fluent Japanese!
Amazing sushi. Really, really great. Terrible, TERRIBLE service. I mean, the service is so bad that I really have to think about whether or not I want to risk being extremely annoyed just to have some good sushi. Every time I leave, I vow I will never put myself through that again. After tonight’s final visit, I will never go again. This time, along with the terrible service, the food wasn’t very good either.
