Been wanting to try this Izakaya style Japanese bistro for a while. I would say I am not disappointed. Their ingredients are fresh and the taste is delicate. If you are looking for the fusion sushi style with lots of sauces, go somewhere else. Their food is refreshing with mild taste and fresh ingredients. Will definitely try again.

Why didn’t I know about this place sooner? We enjoyed every single item we ordered. All were prepared with quality and care. I would like to return for their omakase.

Very authentic Japanese place, very spacious and comfortable. Price was reasonable. My family ordered omakase, and all the foods were delicately prepared and plated! I loved the tamagoyaki, which was folded in a square pan. It was juicy and moist, with tons of flavor bursting all around. It made all other tamagos taste like burnt rubber! The soba chef had formal training in soba making in Japan, and that training made the soba absolutely delicious. The old location of Dan upgraded to a more stylish, comfortable restaurant. I wish there was a bigger choice of sashimi and sushi.

My husband and I ordered ‘Snow crab rice w/ uni & ikura, ‘Steamed egg custard w/prawn’, chicken karaage, Today’s Sashimi, Today’s Special menu Porkrib, and Asakusa soba. All the dishes were absolutely delicious, and my favorite dish was the snow crab rice. Today’s sahimi was fresh, but felt a bit overpriced. This restaurant became my husband’s favorite place in Vancouver, and we’ll be returning soon for his birthday dinner this month! 🙂 Highly recommended

Wanting to try this place for a while now. Coming in with no expectations, and the food was great. Make sure that you have reservations as this place is busy. I must say that they do their grill meat justice. It tastes as though I was back in Japan. Beef tongue and chicken was grill to perfection. Their handmade soba noodle was good. Chawamushi was good, texture and dashi. Sashimi I thought was ok. Eventhough that it was good quality seafood, the price was a bit high for the portion that was given. All in all I would return for sure.May 27, 2016After today’s visit, I will need to take away a star. We ordered the omakase because we wanted to compare the tastes of the chef selected dishes to ordering a la carte.First up was a trio of appies: daikon & asparagus karaage, marinated baby squid & pea tips, and potatoe salad. The karaage had a light, crispy rice flour coating and was perfectly salted. The squid was very tender and the ikura added a nice briny saltiness. The potatoe salad was fine, but something I would not order. Second course was sashimi. Fish was high quality, but pieces were teeny tiny. The otoro nigiri wowed with its rich fatiness.Next were beef tongue, tofu stew with poached egg; grilled mackerel; and kakiage tempura. The stew was sweet and savory, the beef tongue was unbelievably tender. Grilled mackerel was good, but again very small portion. The kakiage was just as good as the first visit. The last course before dessert was Asakusa soba. I love soba and this one had a nice firmness and lots of texture from tempura bits and garnishes. Finally, I had the yuzu orange jelly for dessert. Wow! This had a serious peppery citrus punch. My wife also liked her choice of dessert: matcha mochi. Service was gracious and very attentive when the restaurant wasn’t busy. But it lagged once it filled up.Ok, so I enjoyed the food and had no major gripes about service. Why did they lose a star? Dinner was $120 per couple plus taxes & tips and I walked away hungry!!! The omakase was not good value. I got more variety and my belly was more satiated ordering a la carte.
