An odd start that finished well.Made a reservation last week. Was busy but not full on arrival. Got seated at a tiny table slammed up beside the sink and the washrooms – the only low table on that level and completely separated from everyone else in the place… But not in a good way. Was prepared for a slow start as it was Xmas/Hanukkah and there was a good sized crowd. Waited 20 minutes and had decided on everything but still no service. Not even water. The hostess that sat us there pointed us out to the server. Server was not aware we were there. 5 minutes passed. Server said to hostess that she wanted to move us to the other area – with pushback from the hostess until I casually mentioned that we had waited 25 minutes already and maybe we would get service up there and she finally relented. It was a strange push and pull to have when there were multiple tables open the whole time we were there. After all the opening drama, the drinks appies and mains were delicious and more than satisfying. The server was great and the busser was quick attentive and personable. We would go back but if it started out the same way again it would be the last time for us.
This place is a favourite of mine if my aim is to impress. Great for Business Affairs, Clients, or Dates. The cuts of meat, being that they are Kosher, are something else. The most tender steak I have ever had in my life was at the Maple Grill. The other individuals who dine at the restaurant are typically very business and professional, or very family oriented, creating a very wholesome environment. Our waitress tonight was extremely friendly and attentive, and took photos on our behalf. The aesthetic is very cosmopolitan. My one complaint is that the restaurant is by a busy street, and while not noisy or anything; the view is of broken side-walks and buses. One thing I appreciate here is that Vegetarian and Gluten Free are marked very clearly on the menu, and they are excellent dishes. Our three dishes tonight was an appetizer of Duck, Jam, Onions, and Toast; We remarked that it reminded us of Thanksgiving, but tasted a bit better. It was delicious. For her; she had the Maple Salmon, and I had the Duck with Yam. She loved hers, and I had never had duck in that fashion; and was happy to try something new!
