Absolutely gross…..came here for dinner with my husband and two young boys for dinner on a Saturday evening. Our first hint of it being bad should have been the fact that we were the only people in the place. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, when it arrived I thought it had been deep fried it was in so much grease. I couldnt even eat it. My husband ordered the Salsbury steak and said it was ok at best, his sides were cold and meat was over cooked. My kids split the pepperoni pizza and it too was swimming in grease. The pizza crust itself tasted like playdoh. Don’t waste your money. We will never eat here again.
Found Him. I lived in Victoria for 5 years as an undergrad in Uvic. There, I acquired a taste for fine Salisbury steak. The best places that served it was the cafeteria in the dorm and a 24 hours diner next to the Save On Foods Arena.Ever since I came back to Vancouver, I noticed that only a handful places served this delicacy. ABC Country, Dunn’s Famous, and 2 diners not worth mentioning.ABC’s, it was fine. In Dunn’s version, beef was good, but too light on the brown sauce. And it was a bit expensive for something like SS.At the end of the day, I haven’t found one that’s on par with the ones from Uvic.By fate, I drove almost a hour from downtown Vancouver to Meadows (in the middle of no where) for a meeting. Thanks to Christ, I finally found a Salisbury steak in the lower mainland that’s truly worth going back for, even if it’s out of the way.It was beefy, flavorful, and reasonably priced.Meadows? wow!
My family stayed at the hotel for a mini vacay and we went to the attached restaurant Meadows. The food was mediocre at best and they could only accomodate my daughter’s gluten-egg-dairy-and-more allergy diet with a grilled chicken breast and salad and rice. My gf and I both had the baked scallop shrimp and crab entre. When the food arrived the rice was undercooked and was coated with margarine (which contains a dairy ingredient) and they didn’t have any rice without the margarine on it. Then the chef told the waitress to tell us that margarine doesn’t have dairy. Our entres were served like slop in a dish. It was runny, salty, and bland other than the salt and the shrimp and scallops tasted like they were out of a can. It didn’t seem as if there was even any crab in it. Terrible meal and we stayed away from this restaurant for the remainder of our trip.
Surprising. We go here about once every two months for some good comfort food. They aren’t too expensive ($10-15 plate for dinner) and have decent food. I’ve been told their salisbury steak is awesome but I haven’t tried it (not my thing). I usually get a pasta or a chicken burger, or I try one of their rotating special features. Never busy but I think that’s because not too many people know this place exists. Casual dining that includes warm fresh buns with your meal and sometimes they’ll have something fancy like a three course meal or lobster etc…Will continue going back for nice food, quiet atmosphere and decent prices.
