Our best dining experience during the 10-day BC vacation we took in Sept – Vancouver & Victoria included. The setting is spectacular, the food/wine delicious & the wait staff so personable.
This meal was fabulous. Rated one of Canada’s best for good reason. I had the cod and fettuccine, my husband the flat iron. Both were delicious. We also had dessert which was good. Even though we had a reservation we did have to wait to get in. At the time walk ins were being told 45 min so it’s important to make a reservation. Wine was slightly overpriced but well paired with meals. If you are looking for a fabulous meal, check out this place.
Relaxed environment, fragrant kitchen, friendly staff.Out of all the winery’s I visited during my stay in west Kelowna, this one has to be my favourite!Everything from the design of the buildings on this location to the restaurants view, fantastic wines and flavourful menu make this a must see if your in the area.Had dinner and lunch during my stay and cannot wait to dine here again.Starter salad is very fresh with crunchy leafy veggies and a wonderful raspberry vinaigrette and tart feta cheese. this salads makes your mouth water. I had the chicken Supreme for lunch, the chicken was expertly cooked and seasoned well, mash potatoes and carrots accompanied the chicken. The mash was soft fluffy and creamy. The carrots still had a very slight bite and seamed to be lightly covered in butter. The following day I had the opportunity to have a fantastic dinner.I had ordered the lamb,The lamb came accompanied by grilled green onions, leafy greens feta cheese and little dollops of a flavoured mayo. The lamb was bright pink and melts in your mouth. It felt like I barely had to move my jaw for this meat to crumble in my mouth. The lamb was a Very juicy and tender pice of meat! not sure I can ever eat lamb anywhere els again.Margaritas and cosmos are really strong and really well made!I ordered a small dessert called mignardise that allows you to taste a little bit of everything. All Served on a raspberries coolie, maple fudge was definitely the standout on the dessert plate. Will return for another lovely meal.
In my culinary journey enjoying pub grub and food truck fare, I will occasionally empty the wallet on a stylish meal in an upmarket restaurant. Though not often, maybe once every four months or so. On our vacation through the Okanagan, I was an idiot and blindly passed the credit card on more than one occasion. Burrowing Owl, Tinhorn Creek, Hillside, Poplar Grovewe loved eating at winery restaurants, and none of them were cheap. However, among all of them, the preeminent location, the one with the best food matched with the best view and service by a measurable margin was the Old Vines Restaurant at Quails Gate.We had visited the winery on our previous wine trip a year prior and loaded up on a box of wine (not a box-o-wine, a box of bottles of wine). But on this trip, we only picked up a few varietals and opted for the dinner instead. It was only due to car space; we were on the last legs of our journeyover seven days, we had picked up 120 bottles from 60 locations. There wasnt much room left save for our stomachs. The debit had been nearly tapped clean. But this was a vacation.Old Vines shares a few qualities with Mission Hill up the road. Both take as much pride in their view than in their food, and despite Quails Gate being a slightly restrained experience in comparison, I found Old Vines to be equally as rewarding. We strode past the indoor dining area, past the bar, outside where everyone else was sitting. There were no Greek pillars or stone gazebos, just numerous traditional umbrellas shadowing glass tables. All of it was fringed by flowers, stone paths, and matching the mustard tones carried by the winery. Beyond the roses lay the vineyard open for walking (which we did so after our meal). Truly one of the most spectacular views a restaurant could ever hope to have, in many ways even better than their competition up the road. I would say only Bench 1775 in Naramata has the better view, but only marginally. All that splendor comes with a price, and you can see it plain as day on the menu. The cheapest appetizer was $15. The cheapest main was $24. I wouldnt call that extremely expensive (I had Castle Terrace in Edinburgh that was $300 for two people), but couple that with wine, and the bill will get up there. This is the kind of place that shapes their butter pats into roses; its not a tavern. Dont come here on a budgetorder what you want and let them indulge you with their cuisine. I made that abundantly clear from the onset when I opened with the Foie Gras Torchon (with marigold, peach, and cocoa nib). My girlfriend had the Rangeland Bison Tartare (with purified white rice, cured yolk, and pickled carrot). And then truffle and parmesan fries arrivedbecause they always do. Dont get me wrong, theyre amazing, but its started to get a little cliched that these top end bistros are all serving truffle and parmesan fries. Its like going to a Lexus dealership and someone proudly throwing you keys to a Toyota Camry. The meal was fantastic, and we left satisfied, taking our time to wander the fields and view that sunset.Theres not much else to add really. I cant go into specific details on the dishes as the menu has almost completely changed since last there. What we did have was an incredible experience in an incredible restaurant worth a revisit. We dont have the kind of funds to make Old Vines a tradition, especially given we live nowhere near them, but will keep the memories foreveror at least until we get dementia and/or die.Wow, that got dark fast.At least we have photos.
Another world class restaurant at the Quails Gate Winery. We ordered the charcuterie board with thewine pairing.Their pumpkin cheesecake is to die for. Love the decor of the restaurant. One of the best experience we had during our road trip. We’ll be back if given the chance.
My husband and I are regulars at Old Vines in the summer months because the views are amazing and the atmosphere is very relaxing on the patio! I visited Old Vines this week with a few girl friends and it was soooooo good. First of all, they have half price bottles of wine. I had a bottle of the Merlot ($20), had two glasses and took the rest home! We shared a 1/2 dozen oysters, which were very fresh and very tasty! I had the Farm Crest Chicken.. it was the best chicken I’ve ever had. It came with gnocchi risotto and chorizo sausage. Delicious! The other ladies at the table had thr business lunch. It’s a three course lunch all done under an hour for only $25. The food was great and so was the service. Highly recommended.
Old Vines is located at the Quail’s Gate Winery. While dining you can soak in the gorgeous views of the vineyard and Okanagan Lake. Stopped by for a wine tasting and lunch. Great service at both the winery and the restaurant. We had the 3 course business lunch for $25. Food and presentation was amazing!! One of my fave places.
