I’m not a sushi snob.. But there is much better sushi in Victoria. The raw tuna and salmon was very good, good quality and fresh. Details are lacking though… They put mini plastic cups on your table for soy sauce as oppose to a mini dish.. (Which doesn’t cost much, yet add Validity to the concept) tempura was under cooked.. Servers either need lots of training.. Or hiring people who understand how to serve. They all came across like a light bulb was missing… It’s a sushi rest.. Maybe I’m out of the loop, but really good Japanese food needs to reflect details… And service.

Not great service, good food. We have been here a few times and each time the food is pretty good. Service today was not so good. Not friendly. Asked for a water refill and had to walk up to ask again 10min later. Said thank you and no response given. Just not great customer service. Really too bad.25 Jun, 2012Good food, not so good service. SOOOOO OVERPRICED. I would never pay that much for that quality sushi. California roll was 9$ and it had imitation crab in it. ridiculous..

Disappointing buffet. I decided to try Kuma Sushi for their Saturday buffet. I went in with low expectations, but I was still disappointed. They pre-make their rolls. This would not be the worst thing in the world, but the rice was a bit firm and chewy. During our whole time there, I did not see them prepare the rice, so maybe the whole batch is made for the entire evening. They have a machine to put the rice on the seaweed, so I guess the rice just sits in there all night. They had some raw tuna and salmon in their limited selection, so it wasn’t all bad. It just wasn’t up to par with being at Bear Mountain. Or even some of the other all you can eat places in Greater Victoria.

Good sushi. Kuma sushi is pretty good and I’ve past that point in wondering if I’ll get served bad food or not. It’s never been a disappointment. The price is a tad bit more than other places but not by much. What do you expect though for being on Bear Mountain. The restaurant is very nice and the workers are great people every time I’ve been there. You can’t help but love the complimentary edamame beans they give you either.. even though a couple times I’ve been there I never received any. Also if you go on a nice day and sit next to the window.. chances are you’ll see pretty females walk by in their workout gear 😉

The rice was old and stale/hard, the sushi was okay, but they put a lot of Japanese mayonnaise in the California roll. The yam roll was good. Service was okay, overall it was an okay lunch. Don’t think I’ll go back
