Sekai Udon Bar is located at Metrotown Mall Burnaby. It offers traditional Japanese food here. Because of the location, It becomes one of the busiest Japanese Restaurant in the local mainland. There is more than 100+ seating capacity along with an open sushi bar and an open udon preparation area.I went to Sekai Udon Bar with my friend around Monday Lunch Time. The restaurant was busy, but we could still find the table easily. We gotta into the restaurant fast. After we sat down, the server brought a tea pot and menus to us. There are three different kinds of menu, include special food, lunch special, and regular menu. After we discussed about them, we choose to order the lunch combo because its super cheap, only $9.50.The lunch combo has 4 items, noodles, rice, soup/salad, and special chef dish. Thats lots of food for one person. Also, its a great deal. Both my friend and I ordered Niku Sliced beef & original soup and Salad. Besides that, I had Sake don salmon sashimi My friend ordered Curry croquette don Coconut curry & creamy croquette. In addition, we ordered $6.75 Japoutine Tempura battered fries, with cheese and gravy to share. Our food came out the kitchen fast. They were all fresh and tasty. My most favorite dish is Japoutine. It was Japanese Style poutine =tempura-battered potatoes (or sweet potatoes) + poutine-ish ingredients (cheese and gravy) + seaweed sprinkles.. The sauce of the Japoutine was very delicious. Niku udon was nice, it was traditional udon bowl with sukiyaki beef and assorted veggies and mushrooms. But, I preferred the soup to be boiling and noodle to be chewy. not too soft. food.belindajin.com
Not bad for an Udon Bar..unfortunately I don’t think they are authentically Japanese. But you can purchase freshly machine made Udon by order only if the operator is on site on that shift. Regular side dishes are also available as well. He Takoyaki was tasty too. Rumor has it that it’s situated outside the Bay Metrotown at the old Shu Shi Ya that was closed many moons ago by the Health Inpection Department. A definite must try…
Great place to go for affordable Japanese food and best part of all, it’s located conveniently inside the mall! Been here a few times in the past and I’ve always enjoyed the food.
This place is not really for anything else except udon may be , which on my plate were thick undercooked noodles. They brought me a lunch special with two surprise chefs creation. Guess what were they – one cold potsticker from day before and one wedge of orange/grapefruit.The karage chicken had to be replaced because it was and undercooked. Salad had full leaves of green , not chopped or tossed with a teaspoon of dressing and half grape tomatoes on top.Last time for me
I’ve been here plenty of times. Service is ok sometimes and other times the waiters can be very unfriendly.Food is decent and if come for their lunch/dinner specials it’s a good amount for the price you pay.Very conveniently located in case you don’t want to eat at the food court.
Worst place I’ve ever been to. I ordered a stir fried udon and a rice bowl which came with miso soup. All three items tasted like leftovers that were quickly microwaved and served. The rice and udon felt hard and chewy. The food tasted bland and did not look fresh . The environment did not seem clean at all. Definitely a waste of money. Don’t think I’ll be going back again.
Be careful of the fish here!My partner and I decided to grab a quick snack here since the entire menu is 20% off during its happy hour from 3-5PM. We ordered the spicy sushi combo and it featured a spicy scallop, spicy tuna and crispy spicy salmon roll. The salmon tasted alright, but we both felt like the scallop and tuna tasted a bit funky. The scallop was heavily doused in Japanese mayonnaise, making it somewhat bearable, but the tuna did not taste fresh at all!The worst part was, I felt like I ended up with food poisoning for the remainder of the day. Definitely not going to come back here if my life depended on it!
