Agree with the other comments about the long sofa in the waiting area. Total waste of space. Ordered the clam sakamushi and turned out it wasn’t available. Switched to beef short ribs instead. However, when the bill came, the order of clams was still on at $12.95. Told the waitress there was an error and she came back saying the ribs was the same price at$12.95 and that the $8.50 listed on the menu just hasn’t been updated. How can a customer be charged a different price than that on the menu !? Most likely this waitress was too lazy or lacking the know how to rectify the order in the system. I didn’t want to argue but this would be the last time I set foot in this restaurant. There are lots of better Japanese restaurants in Burnaby.

What’s with your waiting area that’s the restaurant equivalent of an airport concourse? You could fit 4+ more tables in there. What’s with having zero chairs at your bar area and also missing chairs from tables? You also have missing tables within the eating area. Do you keep open areas in order to stage your food or something? Or have you sold your tables in order to pay the lighting bill? Because it is bright af in this joint.Good thing the waitress read my order back to me because she got it wrong. Miso soup never even came. Had to ask for soy sauce. Chicken Karage was doughy inside and seemed under cooked. Sushi was meh, not served with any ginger on the side? Tuna Gomae had onions galore which was strange. No idea what the fuss is… mind blowing actually. Better sushi to be had all throughout Burnaby. On the plus side if you do come here you certainly have room to stretch your feet if you have to wait, if you don’t mind interrogation lights shinning in your eyes.Room for improvement!
Nao has been in the area for over 20 years. Their food is very decent quality. Their Saba Battera were well made, not too sour. The Kamameshi was tasty but a bit too mushy. The Toro Aburi were tasty, but I think it was a bit overdone.
They renovated. Service was ok but food are so so now.Now I have baby and will only go to restaurant that could take reservation. This one will not go from now on. Called to make reservation and they said doesn’t matter if you have a baby, you need to wait in line. I would love to do line up when I don’t have a baby with me. But if you were a mom, then most likely u may want somewhere that could accommodate your family. Oh well, there are tons of restaurant in Vancouver, just go for one that could take me.
Kelsey’s ‘FAS’T review of NAO Sushi:Food (4/5) – I usually come here with a friend for lunch because we like to share the ‘Lobster Sashimi’ as well as an appetizer. A whole variety of sashimi, about 6-7 other kinds, are part of the order along with a whole lobster (but only the tail is turned into sashimi, the rest is for display). When finished, the chef takes the remaining lobster and makes it into a miso udon soup – and this is uniquely delicious and a satisfying way to finish the meal. We love the set price for the lobster ($43) which we find more than feeds the both of us.Ambience (4/5) – the restaurant is casual and clean, with many TVs set in every corner for entertainment. Service (3/5) – mixed, as some days we get a great waiter who is attentive and well spoken, and other times we have to wave the waiter over for any drink refills or food.
