Chuan Chu Ren Jia is a Szechuan restaurant in South Burnaby on Kingsway. I’ve passed by this place so many times, but have never made a visit until now.Sauted Free Range Chicken with Chili was pretty good. Very flavourful and not too spicy. Try avoid eating the red chilis as those have a kick kick of spice to them.Grilled Lamb with Cumin was very good. It reminded me of lamb skewers from other restaurants. I gobbled this plate right up.Sauteed Pork with Chili pepper also has shaved jalapeos. It’s spicy, but I enjoyed the flavours. foodology.ca

Food was very good and for a super reasonable price. We had 5 dishes: spicy eggplant, spicy tofu, spicy fish, hot and sour soup and pork belly. The portions are huge (enough to feed 4 of us for two meals) and it doesn’t seem like they use much MSG. The decor is also quite nice and seems pretty clean. I knocked the rating down to 3.5-4 because the service isn’t very good. When we first walked in we waited for about 5 mins and no host showed up to seat us. We had to look for someone and from there it took another 5 mins. The waitress we had also wasn’t friendly/polite. When we asked her what was in one of the dishes she gave a one word answer and walked away. Overall I would go again but just be prepared for poor service.
I took a bunch of people who were from the city of Chengdu, they not only loved the food, they stated that it’s very authentic to the food from their home. Be mindful! It’s quite spicy! But very tasty!
