Terrible, terrible service. Waited over 1.5 hours just to get our food. Then the food came out for only half the table. While our friends finished their meals, ours came out 15 mins later. Our souvlaki dishes were undercooked and we had to take it home as the waitress was non existent all evening. Getting it redone would probably take forever. They was no apologies whatsoever for the food coming so late. Totally understaffed and no customer service. I guess the Ferrari out front is purchased from all the savings for understaffing. I would definitely never return. Way over priced and food quality was bad. The calamari wasn’t so bad and that’s it. $24 for souvlaki……unreal. So many better Greek restaurants for better value. To add…I got an upset stomach from dinner.
PARKING: Lots of free parking. Look for the red ferrari upfront in plexi-glass housing. Really.BUILDING: Looks like an old house converted to open area space. Lots of knick-knacks, live flowers, plants and vines, candles. lamps decorate. Definitely not your cookie cutter ikea assembled restaurant setting. A bit dark inside but some people like that. OWNER: Quite the character. Curmudgeony is a good word. He doesn’t mingle with the patrons and keeps to himself mostly. The white shirts! But, if you can get past that and all the haters in this site, there is some good food to be had here. Iolanthe (I had to look up the spelling) was our server. Ask for her and you will okay. BIG PARTIES: Actually quite a big area with enough space to have bigger parties in the back, enough to walk around and socialize.WHERE TO START: Vassilis Platter is great introduction. Includes keftedes (greek meatballs), spinach pie, chicken skewers, prawn skewer, lamb chops, roasted potatoes, greek salad, pita bread and tzatziki , all wonderful, not fond of the roasted zucchini. Hummus is extra but definitely homemade and best in Burnaby (that you can buy get at a restaurant and not made by yaya)SOMETHING DIFFERENT: Moussaka, think of it as Eggplant lasagna, really works!PRICE: A bit pricey to be honest. Careful when you order extra skewers and ask for the price first.BOTTOM LINE: Writing this review to honour my late friend Bia who mastered gastronomy and left behind a substantial cookbook collection duly annotated. Vassilis is the only place she enjoyed eating Greek food around here. She was selective with what she ordered but she really enjoyed it with gusto!
Utter garbage. You couldn’t pay me to go back here. I know a lot of people typically just rate someplace poorly because of one bad experience, but trust me and the rest of us saying how bad this place is. Just don’t waste your time. Rudr staff. Poor service. Ezpensive. Bad food.
Disgusting food would never eat there again. I’ve seen the owner belittle his staff and also have seen him buying pre-made Greek appetizers at save on foods down the street. Would definitely never recommend.
It was okay when I went to Vassilis twice. I only liked some of the food there but I can’t remember what it was. The second time I went there they had the same servers. It may be a family business. Correct me if I am wrong.
My wife and I went on a night when they were dead, so the service was good and we got our food fast. Unfortunately, it didn’t taste very good, and we both felt sick for a whole day afterward. They charge top-notch prices for the food, but the quality isn’t there to demand it. I understand now why they were empty.
Worst dinner and dinner service ever! Went to have dinner at this place and it was awful. Sat down with my boyfriend and as we were chatting another couple sat behind us. The couple behind us received their food before us and left as we were still waiting for our food which has now been over an hour. How pathetic is that! The waitress didn’t even update us on the status of our dinner or check in to see if we were doing okay. Our food had finally arrived. In the menu it says your souvlaki comes with salad, rice, potato, bread and your choice of meat. We got a small handful of rice and no bread in sight. At this point I’d completely lost my apetite and I wanted to leave. My boyfriend was quite upset as well. He asked for the bill and we were out the door shortly after. Please don’t go here! Waitresses are completely clueless, don’t expect your food to arrive on time and don’t expect quality Greek food. You are better off going to Opa!
