Long story short. It was a hot hot day and I wanted to get a cold drink to cool down. I went inside cause I saw a sign that said they have air conditioning, sweet.I wanted to freshen up inside the washroom. When I came back out this lady gave me a dirty look while I was lining up. As I approached the front she scolded me saying I should buy something first before using the washroom… Like seriously wtf lol. I told her to eff my order I won’t order then.

Are you kidding?. The Bean Around the World at Main and 20thalso has great low-fat muffins if the oily muffins bother you. As for the free internet service – If you’ve got a complaint that they require a minimum purchase of $4, you’ve obviously never worked for a small locally-run shop of any kind and have definitely not run your own business. They wouldn’t have to ask that you purchase $4 worth of food or drink if there weren’t so much competition from big-chain coffee shops. We need to support smaller, individually-owned businesses like this one. And don’t forget that this location actually bakes their own goods!!! That labour comes at a cost, but their product is far superior to the week-old desserts etc. they sell at Starbucks and most other cafes – yuck! Quality is always worth it and so is supporting our neighbourhood!

The reason I do well in school. I used to frequent the Grind when it was open 24 hours but stopped going after an unpleasant run-in with the owners. There aren’t many 24 hr coffee shops around and I definitely feel the most comfortable coming to this location. Good food, drinks, and friendly staff. The owners are always so nice and welcoming; even to all the students, like myself, who come occupy tables for most of the day. Regarding their wireless policy, it’s simply just to make sure people buy something if they’re going to be there for a long time. It’s a business that needs to run and those that complain should study at home. I personally can’t concentrate at home which is why I have to go to Bean to get work done. I definitely don’t think they’re rude about their policy. Ive heard stories about other coffee shops where owners will actually shut off the internet until everybody buys something…yikes.

This Bean location is dark and cool (in a good way) on a sunny day. Good coffee, but I find their muffins too greasy/oily. Kudos on their recycling commitment, and they give a discount if you bring your own cup.

Food Food Food !!!. If you are looking for some quality food take out place it has to be the Bean on Main and Broadway. It has been my favorite joint for coffee and Gluten free products in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood for years after the Bean around the world on West 10th near UBC where I happen to spend most of my time studying.
