Our search for great East African food in Vancouver ended when we found Caf D’Afrique. Definitely liked the food here more than I did at Harambe on Commercial Drive (although that one’s a good restaurant too)
The service was very good, but it was slightly slow possibly because it was family owned and the chef was also taking care of her children in the restaurant. It was interesting to try the food and it was my first time trying Ethiopian food.
I love it! I love it! I love it! A spicy chicken stew is to kill for. The same with a veggie combo and beef sambussas- they are just delicious. Over the months we have also tried their fish and it was really good. The sour injera just perfectly blends with all the stews and everything together tastes heavenly. This is not a fast food. It is a family operated restaurant. You need to wait for your food, but it is so worth it. The owners are really friendly.
Unexpected delight!. My wife and I just happened to pass by while famished. We thought, why not–the place looked clean and welcoming even though they had no customers at 7:30 on a Thursday evening. We ordered the vegetarian combo plate for two and loved it! The option of a single dish for two meant that I could eat more and my wife less, thus filling me up and not wasting her food. The atmosphere was pleasant, music not loud. Don’t know why it was such a quiet evening–good food, pleasant atmosphere, great value.
We dined here last Saturday evening, for the 1st time. What a treat! We’ve tried all but one Ethiopian restaurant in vancouver area, and this is definitely in top 2! We met Kidist, the very friendly and accommodating owner. She was so very warn and friendly! The food was great, we had 1chicken, 1 beef dish and 3 veggie dishes. Absolutely nothing to complain about! Raves all the way around. We’ll definitely be back soon!
Delicious, warm and friendly. The food at this warm and friendly place is delicious – prepared and served with heart. We had a platter of injera with the chicken with berbere sauce (red/spicy!) also the vegetarian sampler (fantastic lentils, greens, pickled beets and potatos, savory rice) and tried a chicken tagine with lime/coconut sauce. We also enjoyed chatting with the friendly staff about the cuisine and how it is prepared here and in Africa. We look for Ethiopian food whenever we travel- this restaurant is a treasure. We plan to return and we recommend it to you!
Unforgettably Delicious. Some friends and I went to Cafe D’Afrique this past week and we had a fantastic time. The service was friendly and warm. The food was mouthwateringly tasty and unlike anything I have ever had before (we had the vegetarian combo for two and the fish stew). The honey wine is also a must try! It’s made in-house and is so, so wonderful. I can’t wait to go back!
