Arrive hungry. Leave annoyed.. My group of four arrived to Hyde on Sunday for brunch and had high hopes after ordering and enjoying some tasty caesars. However, that’s where anything good about our meal ended. After finishing our drinks and more than 45 minutes of waiting, our orders arrived. My sister ordered two medium poached eggs, toast, bacon and a salad for her side. What she got was one hard-boiled egg, one soft-poached egg, unseasoned hashbrowns and no bacon. Her boyfriend ordered The Hangover benny and it was so cold that his cheese wasn’t even melted and the bacon had congealed. He was the lucky one though, his potatoes had seasoning. I ordered the lox benny, which was cold with a few scant pieces of smoked salmon. My potatoes had none of the seasoning salt, either. My fianc ordered the burger, and he enjoyed it. That was until he bit through a raw clove of garlic that completely ruined his palate for the rest of the day. He reeked like garlic, despite the mint-flavoured gum he shoved in his mouth. In what world does it take any cook/server to a) make eggs in less than 45 minutes, b) have the food served up warm c) realize that a whole raw clove of garlic dropped in mayonnaise does not a garlic aioli make. The only reason I could see anyone going back would be to have drinks. Really epically bad experience. Would not recommend.
Tiny Room, Big Fun. We came in a couple weeks ago for the bingo night on Wednesday’s. It’s a dirty bingo run by some of the burlesque performers here in Vancity. We had the best time. $5 appetizers, cheap beer and our server was very accommodating and hilarious. The laughter in that room is definately contagious!
It took us about 10 minutes to get seated or even paid attention, and there were 3 empty tables. Food was okay, my husbands eggs Benny were cold though. Server seemed a little flustered and not very attentive. Also not really any good options or vegetarians.
