Discovering restaurants in our new neighbourhood. We came to Kiso for lunch. This restaurant is ornate with large banquet tables and friendly staff with efficient service. Rainbowcrab had a box. She said the beef teriyaki was over cooked and her cali roll was so loose it fell apart. I had the pick pair choice. My karage was very over cooked but the tempura was ok. We won’t be back.
First of all – DO NOT eat here. I ordered takeout here on a whim and I have to say this is the worst sushi I’ve ever had. Found a hair stuck on one of the rolls and two bones in a piece of salmon sashimi. I don’t even know if it was sashimi grade salmon. Most of the rolls were falling apart and had way too much rice. The unagi roll had a tiny sliver of eel that did not taste fresh at all. The soft shell crab roll tasted like old KFC chicken in a roll. And the place smelled weird, too. Avoid this place at all costs! If you’re looking for better sushi in the area, go to Carp, Sushi Loku or Hime Sushi.
I had take out because I was in a rush. Inside the restaurant smelled like a public washroom. Not good. Food was super cheap, it was also bad quality. My sashimi was kind of frozen too. I guess you get what you pay for. Never coming here again.
No good! There are much better sushi places near by that will accommodate an order even if it is 30 Mins to close…If you get stuck in the same predicament as we just did then I would suggest Sushi Yama. 1 block down main and broadway.
Eat a head of lettuce instead.. I ordered the Roll Combo Special #2 which comes with salmon, tuna, and cucumber roll, and a miso soup. HANG UP THE PHONE IMMEDIATELY if you plan on placing an order. I can’t quite decide if it was the gloopy goop they call rice sticking to the roof of my mouth, the scary looking back ends that they used for the salmon and tuna, or the bitterness emerging from the pieces of cucumber that brought my lunch break to a quick end. I guess this really is a matter of getting what I paid for. The meal was $5.95 before taxes and needless to say I don’t plan on investing any more money into this restaurant. I took a photo of it after I threw it in the garbage. Everyone has their threshold of tolerance and I have mine. Never again!!!
I first ate at Kiso Island when it was Kishu Island, a block up on the corner of Main and Broadway. It seems they’ve gone down hill since they were forced to open up shop where they are now. I live in Alberta, but still make a point of visiting every time I come home for a visit. I think last night was the nail in the coffin. The tuna and salmon sashimi I was served was absolutely ghastly. The tuna was frozen all the way through(not sliced thin enough?), and the salmon was the worst farmed, fresh-from-frozen crap I’d ever tried to eat. Needless to say, I had a couple pieces after they brought me some less frozen fish, but my appetite had already left the building. I don’t believe they are under new management, as the core staff seems to have remained unchanged. It’s unfortunate that I have had fresher fish in the prairies. I’ve had many good memories at Kishu/Kiso, and it sucks to have to say I will never go back until I hear of any improvement.
