Came for a snack and ordered the braised tender rib with instant noodle and added $2 for the bottled milk tea. Below expectations. The pork was a bit sour which i believe was due to the freshness of the product. The saucewas really mediocre as well. Milk tea was not particularly good as well. Wouldnt come again to be honest.
Used to be the old Kams bakery now revamped to be Macao Restaurant, an HK style cafe specializing in Portuguese dishes.Service was alright. The new waiter in training was slow at taking our order but he got the job done. We ordered the baked Portuguese Chicken first as it takes 20 minutes to make but the Portuguese chicken ended up coming first before the other dishes. The Portuguese chicken tasted great. Was filled with chicken, sausage, peppers, onions and olives with egg. Downside about it is considering it is a $19 dish that can serve 4, it came with only 1 bowl of rice. The baked pork chop on rice was delightful. Liked the fact that they used real tomatoes for the sauce, bringing out more natural flavours. Not like your typical HK cafe that uses tomato soup or sauce. The pork chop was fried just right and was tender. The braised tender ribs in instant noodles was a failure and not even what it sounds like. It was a few chunks of meat in a sour’ish red sauce with instant noodles on the side. Was not impressed. Also did not enjoy the curry Portuguese sardines in crispy bun. It was quite fishy to my liking. Almost a distinct pungent taste. Prices are above average compared to your typical HK cafe. Entrees range from $13-$20 and does not come with a drink..unless you order a daily special which is around $14. They have a promo going on where if you like their facebook or instagram you get 5% off your bill. They also have a deceiving ad at each table stating if you order $50+ then you get a free snack of your choice. That snack comes in a voucher form for your next visit..not an instant redemption. Parking is limited in the back with tight spots. Be prepared to feed the parking meters. Overall a hit or miss but would come back for the Portuguese chicken and baked pork chop on rice.
This restaurant is attached to Kam’s Bakery but it has recently been renovated to be Macao Restaurant which specializes un Hong Kong cafe / Portuguese style food. They have a plethora of options for breakfast that you’d come to expect of HK cafes. I feel right at home. Hong Kong style milk tea tastes legit and deliciously creamy and full of tea flavour. Service is prompt and efficient. Ambiance is quite comfortable and well-lit and more similar to the nicer HK style cafs you’d expect inside a mall – not dingey/dark/run-down. Its a good place to go to eat and chat as they’ve got booth seating as well as long tables. I liked the garlic chicken wings the least because I found it to be under-seasoned. The best things were the buns and milk teas.I will definitely come back to try their other food — especially their happy hour options!
