This is a cute little shop with Japanese goodies and food made to order. There’s a good variety of cooked and raw food at reasonable prices. They have a few seats to sit at if you choose to eat in. There’s a couple of tables and seating by the window. We tried the spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, BC roll, combo #1 (California and ebi ebi roll), and the Superbowl donburi (beef, karaage, and veggies). We replaced the deep fried prawn in the ebi ebi roll with a steamed one instead. Didn’t have to wait too long for our food considering how much we ordered. It arrived neatly plated with ginger and wasabi. The donburi was a good portion for 6.75. The beef was nice and tender and the karaage was crisp and not oily. It had good flavour. Their California roll was different in that the crab wasn’t all shredded and mixed with mayo, instead it was a big chunk which I kinda liked. Ebi ebi roll and spicy salmon roll were good. The spicy tuna was a bit different because it seemed like the tuna was all chopped up and mixed with spicy mayo. It had a sweet and spicy taste which was actually pretty tasty. The BC roll was pretty good except I felt there was a bit too much unagi sauce. Other than that, the food was solid. I would definitely come back again!
Great take-out. This is probably my #1 choice for sushi take-out in town, especially around lunch time when I’m in a rush. I never have to wait more than 5 minutes and the rolls are very good for the price. I’ve only dined in once; seating is limited.
Tempura love. You have got to try their tempura. Light and crispy. Cute little seating areas. Casual and cute.
Very good food. Cafeteria type place with very fair prices. I got carried away and ordered way too much. A lot of appetizers, dynamite roll and toro/salmon sashimi. Appetizers included tonkatsu, gyoza, shrimp tempura, agedashi tofu and miso soup. Way too much for only two people. They accept credit card and lots of free parking. I wish they had later hours or had delivery
Great, authentic sushi & Japanese market. One of the 2 authentic Japanese places in Kelowna (Mabui is the only other one). The prices here are very cheap, and the sushi and other dishes are always fresh and tasty. It is also the best place to shop for Japanese ingredients. Komatsu down the road has the same stuff at twice the price!? Eat at Ume – you won’t get ripped off.
Highly Recommend!. As a Japanese person living in Kelowna, I have two favorite Japanese restaurants to visit. And Ume Japanese Foods To Go is one of them! Very reasonable priced items, friendly service and freshly prepared AWESOME food! Highly recommend! 🙂
This is by far one of my favorite places to eat!I’m really picky about my Japanese food and Ume’s food tastes just like it does in Japan. I personally recommend the Curry with Fried Pork cutlet (tonkatsu curry).I eat there at least twice a week.
