Gone way downhill.. We visited a year ago and had an awesome experience… this did not live up to that. The tables on one side of the restaurant were complaining because of the freezing cold (the door was open) but every time it was closed, the people on the other side would complain about the heat, and it would be opened again. It was stuffy and they really need to sort out their ventilation. It was hard to enjoy the meal with all this going on. Especially considering such high prices, I expect to be treated with a bit more care, and the service was really impersonal. The only vegetarian option was really small and average (and they ran out shortly after we got there), but the crab starter and salmon entree were quite good. The best part of the meal was the creme brulee. I hope they sort out some things, because it used to be really fantastic.
Another Victoria restaurant dives to mediocrity. As seasons ticket holder for the Belfry theatre for many years we have seen restaurants come and go in the square across from the theatre. We were delighted when Ca Va opened and we have enjoyed great meals there….until yesterday. What a disappointment. The appetizer pear and pecorino ravioli contained enough garlic to ward off the fiercest vampire. We both had the short rib entre that at $28 contained a small piece of meat, a piece of bone full of tasteless marrow and what looked and tasted like a squirt of liquefied potato. Completely unappetizing. We won’t be back.
A wonderful and well-rounded experience was had at Ca Va. Ca Va Bien!! My partner and I shared the pear and peccarino ravioli to start which was delicious, light, and sweet. We also had the bread which came hot crispy and chewy with olive oil and zatar (yum yum). For our mains, I have a fork tender beef short rib with smoked mashed potatoes and bone marrow. On top of this was generous curls of fresh Parmesan. Holy. Cow. My partner for his main had the pork belly and polenta. His pork belly was juicy and tender with a crunchy-munchy outter, and the polenta was soft and creamy. Between the appetizer and our main the server gave us a pallet cleanser of muddled cucumber and lemon juice. It was unexpected and very clean and light. Although we did not have room for dessert, it is clear to see that this place is the whole package! Great food, really great service, and a lovely atmosphere. We will go back for sure!!
Perfect Serving Portions and High Quality Ingredients. I went there with a friend a week ago for the first time for both of us. We went there for brunch and I got the Eggs Benedict with Goat Cheese, my friend got another version of the Eggs Benedict, I just can’t remember:-) The Waitress was super helpful and very friendly, and the atmosphere was modern yet comfortable (++Fancy bathrooms!! Haha) The food was delicious, it was packed with flavour and the serving portion was perfect; both of us felt completely content at the very last bite and we’re both pretty good eaters. The price is pretty good for the quality of foods you get, there was healthy and wherever possible; local ingredients. So if you’re looking for a place to take someone to impress in the morning I would highly recommend CaVa! We really enjoyed it, in contrary to other Breakfast places where you end up with taking half of it home with you or stuffing yourself to be uncomfortably full – inhibiting you from moving for a while – this food gave us lots of energy, making us ready to move on with our busy days right after we left! I would recommend this place to everyone, I have yet to try it for dinner but I will be back!:-)
I really love this place. It’s high on the favourite list for both myself and my partner. The space is small and comfortable, the staff are incredibly helpful, and the food is delightful. I can’t get enough of the short ribs and lamb, but everything I’ve tried has been fantastic! For higher-end cuisine, this place delivers a lot of bang for your buck. The quality is outstanding and the value is well beyond reproach. Mmmm. Short ribs.
Expensive?. The food’s delicious. I really like the ravioli appetizer. I guess food this good has to be expensive?
Nice!. Great food, walks the line between pretentious fine dining and decent portion sizes so you don’t leave hungry.A whole culinary experience, palate cleansers and wine included.
