Ox King looked to be an answer to my prayers: a tucked away, no fuss noodle bar in Victoria. The food has to be pre-packaged and tastes like it as well. The dumplings weren’t horrible but they were no hell either. The noodles in soup tasted like a Thai Kitchen sweet and sour packaged soup I can find at a grocery store for a whole lot less and way less greasy as well. There was a thick film of grease on top of the soup I had to dab away with my napkins. Another issue for me were the disposable plastic bowls, cutlery, etc. I ate in and still got these. I get that they have a small space and maybe dispensing with a dishwasher is a way to cut down on overhead, but all that plastic probably ends up right in the landfill. Nice guys running the stand while I was there, but that isn’t enough to recommend Ox King, especially when I noticed the food they were eating wasn’t the food they were serving.
came here before a show a the arena. Ordered a bunch of stuff for out group and nothing was very good. The skewer especially were awful. We had the lamb, beef and pork and all of them were totally coated in cumin. The menu didn`t mention this at all and it made them completely inedible. Nothing like a mouthful of dry cumin to turn you off your dinner. The dumplings were ok but nothing great and come with no sauce to make them more interesting. the two noodle dishes were bland and oily. With little to offer and nothing kid friendly I will not return.
Sadly, we were not impressed. mushy noodles – they were sold out of the hand-rolled at 6pm? Oily broth… just meh. Staff were super nice.Likely will not return.
Wow, were we ever disappointed!!! We saw this place online and the pics and reviews looked great…. But NOTHING was as it appeared online! First of all, we thought it was a restaurant based on the photos, when we pulled up and saw a hole in the wall take out place we decided we would still give it a shot. We ordered and asked for the fresh pulled noodles which we read online we could get for an extra dollar… Of course they didn’t have them! We got our food to go and when we got home and saw the food, we were outraged! The food was NOTHING like the pictures, as in they were random pics pulled off the internet!!!! The pork bun was some dried pulled pork between two hard pieces of bread.. NOT a pork bun at all! I only writing this review so others don’t get fooled by the self written reviews found online….just bad mojo all over! .
Really high quality handmade food, at a very affordable price. You can tell she really loves to cook and make food that nurishes us. The pork bun was amazing… I’m on my way back right now to try the noodles!
First time here, and immediately brings us right back to China. Soup was great and the dumplings were outstanding! Can’t wait to try other dishes!
Finally….Authentic Chinese Beef Noodle, dumplings, and more in Victoria!!!. I finally tried Ox King today after seeing the sign a few weeks I can say that I was highly impressed by what I got. Ordering the basic Beef noodle () from the regular menu and the BBQ Lamb skewer () from the 4:00pm to 8:30 special menu, I was delighted at the authentic and tell tale depth of attention and ingredients. Simple, fresh, and legit. I have traveled around the world and specifically spent several years living throughout China, Taiwan, and East Asia. I am a food snob. This place won my approval and I would easily recommend it as a Northern Chinese noodle and snack spot. Good job!!!
