Awful service…..this place used to be good but it has new owners and it is rediculous. Several people working but only 1 can take orders…. she cane to our table and offered my wife a drink but then left before asking anyone else… I will never go back
Very disappointed by this place. Bad food and even worse service. We were told that the muscles were on special that night so we got two orders of those. Took us over an hour to get our food and it wasn’t even that busy… our waitress basically ignored our table and was very snippy when we asked about the food. we had to reask her for water multiple times as she forgot to refill it and she seemed annoyed the whole time. ironically she had mentioned she worked there for years… you would think service would be excellent for a long term waitress. once we finally got the food it was meh. not coming back here
Hadn’t been to The District in years. This place was the go-to dinner and drinks date spot for awhile but then I got bored of it/forgot about it/got tired of fighting for parking/would rather go next door and drink a cocktail the size of a small aquarium. But, last Sunday, a friend and I were in NO MOOD for venturing downtown for brunch so when she brought up The District as an option, I thought why not. Firstly, they have a great selection of brunch items! I was very surprised. For some reason, I wasn’t expecting much but they have more than enough sweet and savoury options (and I was totally eye-ing the other table’s French Toast). I actually had a hard time deciding between the Crab Cake Benedict Bowl (next time!) and the Croque Madame, but I went with the latter. My friend was also having a hard time deciding but she chose the Eggs Benedict (sub bacon for capicolla) and we ended up just splitting both dishes.Let me just say, the eggs were cooked PERFECTLY! I actually get so excited by a perfectly poached/fried egg and the chef did it for both our dishes. We couldn’t shut up about how perfect our eggs were. The hollandaise was creamy and decadent but not too heavy. The Croque Madame was cooked to perfection and the toast still had some pillowy softness to it. Their hash browns are stupid good. I was actually in awe of how good the food was. Their coffee is great (although we were never offered a refill) and their mimosas were really nice too.The only reason I wouldn’t give this place a 5.0 rating is because their service was pretty shitty. We sat around for long stretches of time with zero attention from our server (like when we wanted more coffee, our bill, to actually pay the bill etc) and we both felt pretty neglected even though the restaurant was basically empty. Both my friend and I commented that we wish we could just give our tip directly to the kitchen LOL Other than that, great place for brunch!
So we got there pretty early and it seemed like a cool little restaurant. The music was good and it was cozy. We were the only ones there and the waitress tried to seat us in the back on the high crowded stools. I asked if we could sit by the window and she said sure but I knew she wasn’t happy about that because later on I saw her pointing at us. The waiter was nice enough and friendly. But there was some problems with our food and he just brushed it off. I ordered mussels and they were okay, not great. I feel like I’ve had enough mussels in my life to know really great ones. Anyway, one of them wasn’t opened and I pointed that out but he just said that happens sometimes. Well, I’ve never had that happen before. Why wouldn’t the chef just take that mussel out? And if it happens shouldn’t you get something in return as an apology? It’s not a big deal, but when you pay 19$ for a small portion of mussels shouldn’t they be perfect? Another problem I had was with the price of our drinks. We were charged more than the price on the menu. The waiter said, there was a problem with the font on the menu so the price looked different. I couldn’t believe that excuse. If you charge that much for food and drinks certainly you can have a clearer menu. Anyway, it seemed like a promising place, and the ambiance was cool, but the food was at best mediocre. We’ll not return.
My husband and I went in for dinner on a Friday night. We knew that it would be busy, and while we usually love going to The District, last Friday night was a disappointment. The sever was seemed very inexperienced. She didn’t know her table numbers and got her orders mixed up the entire time we were there. She barely came around to check on anyone. While our food and drinks came quickly, our server did get our order wrong. I also overheard her getting drink orders wrong at the table behind us (who happen to be friends we ran into). Additionally, space was at a premium in the lower room. They packed everyone in so tight, the severs couldn’t even get to the tables in our section without us moving out of our seats and moving chairs. Lastly, it took us 20 minutes and 2 servers for us to get the bill as our original server couldn’t keep up with her section. It was a really unfortunate night as we had wanted to go out and have a relaxing night and it was anything but. I really hope things change around there as we like their food, but I wouldn’t go again if that is going to be the experience in the future. I’ll likely give it one more chance.
My husband and I went for a Saturday night date night. The beer was delicious but the food left more to be desired. Needless to say I am finishing the night eating a bowl of cereal because I was unable to finish my meal due to the copious amount of goat cheese in my sandwich.
Seating is definitely a little tight, but the restaurant has friendly staff and a nice vibe. Loved the steak sandwich! It wasn’t a traditional steak sandwich but it sure was delicious!
