I’ve come here many times over the past decade and my go to is the lunch combo C! They’re very generous with their pad thai and every time I end up eating only half and saving the rest for tomorrow’s lunch! They have increased their price by 50 cents in the past year or two and removed one spring roll from the lunch combo. But that’s understandable because of the sky rocketting of food prices these days. They haven’t ever increased their prices apart from that, so I think it’s fair.
I would have given BT a 5 as I have been a loyal customer since they opened at this location, however, during my recent visit I was shocked at the 30% increase in prices. The dishes start off as vegetarian; if you are a meat eater you have to pay extra. Two other parties, who are also regular customers, expressed the same sentiment as I did. One party mentioned that they eat there every week. I wonder if they will continue to do so. I was told by the host that it was only a 10% increase, but I don’t think so.
Disappointing!. I was very disappointed for the second time today. I ordered a take away 30 minutes in advance so I give them enough time before pick-up. They delivered the wrong order,(lucky I checked before leaving the premises). If it is for myself, I would have let it go. But it was my daughter who was waiting for her lunch at the school and she only liked red curry. So I had to wait another 20 minutes to receive my correct order and was very late to deliver the lunch to my hungry child. While I was waiting, I saw many with disappointed faces because orders were mixed up, waiting to pick-up take away orders for a long time, and waiting to be seated etc. I guess this is normal unorganised way for Oak Bay Baan Thai. Normally, I am very happy with the service I receive at downtown premises. They manage well.
Pad Thai is Greasy and Gross. Not a fan – pad thai is greasy and chow mein-y- way too heavy on the soy sauce! Thai food usually makes me feel light and healthy, but after eating here I feel heavy and gross. Their curries are decent – but the pad thai is such a disappointment. I recommend going to Sookjai or Zap instead – even Thai Lemongrass in Cadboro Bay is better than this!
Celiacs avoid this place. I would not recommend this place for people who have to eat gluten free. I have celiac disease and I decided to give this place a try on a slow Sunday night and my meal ended up not being gluten free. I ordered the noodles and rice which I have ordered at other thai restaurants in Victoria.
Excellent food. I recently got the pad thai, very good as well as the Gai Pad Med Ma Muang which is amazing!, we also got a Gai Makam which is a lightly breaded chicken atop greens with cilantro. this was no good at all, very very cold, wet soggy, with way too much cilantro and lime on top. very disappointed in this dish as well very very small portion aluminum tin with barely half full and no chicken, mainly served on lettuce,we love thai food but have a hard time choose this place over another place in town now
