Well Below Expectations. A wonderful, well appointed hotel, like this, deserves better food services. We booked a table for a Sunday morning brunch with friends but found that the dining room was full and were seated in the Snug (bar/lounge), which was nice but less formal. The server was pleasant but slow to take the order and slower to bring it to the table. Two of us ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict which is offered on either a bagel or a quinoa biscuit. We both wanted to order it with the quinoa biscuit but they were out. One of us then ordered it with no biscuit, just the eggs on the smoked salmon and the other ordered it with the bagel. The bagel was not a good choice, it was dry, tough and too large. The order with no biscuit came with sliced tomatoes but the smoked salmon as missing. The server did not return to check on us for some time and the guest was finished her meal by the time she returned. The server apologized and quickly brought a side of smoked salmon. The corned beef hash was reported to be good and the French toast was OK, but both diners commented that they expected more fruit or other sides on their fairly bare plates. One diner did have hash browns with their meal but was disappointed to find that they were commercially prepared and deep fried, rather than house-made. Overall, the meals would have been more suitable, and cheaper, if served at a roadside caf.
We tried the dining room tonight the check in process was flawed and ackward. We finally get sorted beside a very pompous table. 10 minutes after being seated we finally see our waitress we order a few drinks to start. Food was very good a tad overpriced for what you get. It was hard to enjoy the food with the table right beside us. The waitress did the best she could. I can’t complain about the food but the service was flawed. The atmosphere was stuffy for the 8 tables that could be seated there at any given time23 May, 2014Thank god the reviews aren’t true; unless perhaps they got a new chef because the food was quite good, as are the drinks!Excellent service too
Ms Tids. Breakfast continues to be a disappointment. Food is either not hot enough or/and the the staff have got the order wrong. The waitresses/waiters seem dizzy & distracted. The rooms are lovely, & the surrounding views & scenary are great. But we like to come down it a decent breakfast. And that hasn’t happened yet. Too bad. As well, the food in the snug is average to poor. Not what the Snug used to be.
Same kitchen as the snug, too bad.. Oak Bay Dining Room’s fare, regrettably, comes from the same kitchen the produces the appalling food for the Snug. Come on guys, you are a five star hotel! Surely you could hire at least one competent cook? The reputation of the hotel is overshadowed by the underwhelming food. In every other respect, your hotel is exemplary. If you revamped your kitchen (and put out food people actually could eat), you’d have a winner! horsingaroundvictoria.com
A Steak From Hell. I was so disappointed with our visit to this newly rebuilt hotel and dinning room. Masquerading itself as a five star establishment, but I really couldn’t give it more than a two star rating which was evident throughout the lobby and waiting area’s. The restaurant staff were very pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable, but the food (which is what its really about) definitely left me deflated, hungry and totally disappointed. This experience is something I really wanted to forget, but my main issue was the quality of the beef offered as a steak in ‘Mains’, which was the worst restaurant piece of beef I’ve ever had. Tough, stringy and loaded with uncooked FAT and gristle. It truly was a steak from hell and I will NEVER EVER return, nor recommend to my friends.Don’t waste your money here, your way better off at The Mariner Restaurant where the ingredients are impeccable!
