Surprised to find this place full of people on a cool weekday afternoon. Standing in line ready to place my order and a middle aged woman rudely butts in front of me and asks if there’s wi-fi and employee says no so she rolls her eyes, turns on her heels and walks away totally miffed. The staff member seemed apologetic, like she deals with this grouchy reaction regularly, but I had to laugh and shake my head. What’s the big deal about being unplugged for a bit? ….Preferably with good food and drink. Yep it’s Oak Bay. A touch removed from downtown and rest of the world, tad pricey, and self-important, but charming little place to visit, slow down and take in. Same can be said about Ottavio, part cafe, bakery and deli. Warm ambience and nice staff. Lots of selection. Food looks home-style good and thoughtfully curated. I ordered the homemade minestrone soup, and it tasted like grandma made it. I enjoyed on the little patio out front watching the world go by, then I biked home.
