Love this Bakery. We have had many cakes from Pure Vanilla and they have always been great. I ordered the Berry Charlotte this last weekend and everyone loved it. I wish I lived in Victoria I would have a weekly order!!! Thank you Pure Vanilla Great Work.
Disorganized and not as good. This place did our wedding cake and it was fantastic.There’s a big disconnect at their retail front end, staff are disinterested. Food quality is overpriced, and not as good as it used to be.If I wanted dried out tasteless baked goods, I’d make them myself.
Can’t really go wrong. Full disclosure: I think I was one of the first customers when PV opened, and i’ve been back regularly ever since because I love it so. [minor] Quibbles are that parking can be really difficult (i.e. 11-2 on weekdays!); tables are scarce, tiny & packed tightly; coffee/tea is not exceptional; prices are on the higher end; and the savoury menu (the soup, sandwich, panini, pizette, quiche, and salad) changes frequently but isn’t listed anywhere but on the blackboard in the restaurant (although you can always phone ahead and ask- which i’ve done many times before grabbing takeout for a group). But don’t let any of those things stop you! Both the lunch items (all vegetarian, although shrimp, tuna, and salmon occasionally make appearances) and baked goods range from very good to excellent. The pumpkin cookie with maple frosting is a standout, as are the cakes, tarts, macaroons, and the hot cross brioche buns available for a few short weeks around easter. Their version of a morning glory muffin (with marmalade glaze) is also the best i’ve had. And they box up goodies beautifully. Definitely worth a visit.
I love this little cafe and the location cannot be beat! I do think that it can be a bit pricey (not the place to stop for your coffee on a daily basis!) but the food and coffee is always great! In the summer, I love to sit on the patio with a coffee and a galette or other pastry and the paper – a great way to spend a lazy morning!
Always a good choice.. Almost on par with Delish and Fol Epi. Not cheap, but their product is always very good and sometimes excellent (I am a former pastry chef and have unreasonably high standards). If you haven’t been here stop by, it is a great place to go for a lunch date (they have quiche and casseroles etc). The staff are wonderful and the ambiance is lovely.And for a bonus, Slater’s First Class Meats is across the street and the guys in there are awesome and I love spending my money in businesses that have a great product and act like they care about their customers.
Still Drooling. My birthday cake was from Pure Vanilla- the Lemon Charlotte. I am still drooling well after the fact. They have a wonderful selection of baked goods- my favorite is the strawberry rhubarb tart. The coffee was good too!
