Awesome macarons. I’ve tried most of their macaron flavours and enjoyed them. They are flavourful and not too sweet. Black current one is my favourite so far.
It tastes like paper. I wanted to like Murchie’s Tea and Coffee, I really did. It’s a local chain, not a big one, and the shops are homey with their displays of coffee/tea bric-a-brac for sale. I had been here once before years ago when I was new in town and my fancy espresso machine was still on a boat steaming across the Pacific. Only it was so un-memorable that I blanked on it until now, when a disturbance in The Force of my home coffee operation has forced me to go elsewhere for my espresso. So I rolled in for a cappucino and chocolate croissant while shopping for a burr coffee grinder at the mall. (No luck there — I want a higher-end grinder than what they sell at The Bay.)I’d write about the taste of Murchie’s coffee, except there wasn’t any. The predominant flavour was the paper of the cup it came in. Almost no bite of bean-y acidity, and the over-foamed milk didn’t add anything. It might have been the fault of the croissant, which a little tag in the display case said was made in Murchie’s kitchen. It looked nice, with some white frosting swirls mixing with the chocolate frosting adorning the top. But the pastry was so bready and bland that it was like a flavour vacuum, shutting down my taste buds with its nothingness. I get the feeling that no butter was involved with the making of this croissant. Now I remember why I forgot I ever went to Murchie’s.
Best Coffee in Vancouver. For anyone who doesn’t know Murchie’s was the 1st to bring gournment high quality coffee to Vancovuer over 20 years ago so if you haven’t tried Murchie’s it really is a most and I’m said they closed the Robson Street store.
